So I had the first service done by Triumph as I also had the Bluetooth system installed. So seemed like good way to kick off the mechanical care of the bike.
Get home and I started noticing oil spots behind the engine on the left side, dripping off of the exhaust. Put the bike up on the stand and crawled under and found the starter appears to have oil coming out of the back end of it. Note, the drive line passes right over this, so it might be the drives haft seal is leaking??? Just dont know.
Of course there are zero exploded diagrams of the full bike to reference and the parts diagrams are useless. Has anyone had a similar leak from this location. I can't get in for warranty till July 1st to find out exactly what's wrong. Will update as Inl find out, but curious if this is happening to anyone else.
possible spilled oil
possible loose drain bolts check them for tightness
check starter bolts
they have had trouble with the gear position switch orings leaking
check whether leaking overnight or leaking while driving or idling
Given the location, it's probably the same gear position sensor leak several of us have experienced. After removing the cover over the starter and cleaning everything up, I'd go for progressively longer rides and see if that's the source.
I predict the GP sensor is the source of your problem. Clean the area really well and dry. You may see the leak soon after you start the bike and let it run for a couple of minutes.
Found out my bike has been leaking oil. It's always "used oil" and I wonder if this could be where it's been going all along- seems likely. It's coming from the gear position sensor and is slow enough that it never drips beneath the bike and may only happen when the bike is running. If so, the...
