Mine does that every now and then. Not sure if it's the same issue, but sometimes when I hit the starter it cranks over fine but won't start. If I let up on the start button and then press it the second time it always starts instantly. It's almost as if something in the ignition circuitry isn't turning on with the first press of the button but works fine on the second press. I've just gotten used to it and now if it doesn't start immediately on the first press I just let up and hit it again and it always fires right up the second time.
Yup exact same condition. I tried to ride it out a bit longer this time than I did last time and it still took me having to hit the start button twice and sure enough the second time it instantly started. Tobad the plugs arent easier to get to you could clamp the plug wire with a timing light and see if its firing.
Could it possibly be the fact that you use premium gas? Unless you have a tune these bikes are made to run off of regular unleaded. If I fill up at a discount gas station I use mid grade but have never tried premium and have never had the issue you are reporting.
I have read that in other treads as well I just dont know why hitting the start button a second time would make it fire without fail if it was just having a hard time igniting the fuel. Maybe ill try mid grade for a bit and see if there is a difference. I'll be sure to update in either case.
One thing you can try (and it's free) is when you click the rocker to ON and hear the fuel pump prime, give it an extra 4 seconds before hitting START. It could be simply the fuel rail isn't suffiecently pressurized before you hit the start switch.
Noticed the same. Always starts, but maybe 1:10 it’s a 2-, almost 3-sec chugga-chugga and a puzzled look. Seems to be on cool mornings (40’s, 50’s), so i chalked it up to running 15w50. Maybe that’s not the cause; don’t know. New bike, 8800mi

I've always used premium (91 R+M/2 in Arizona) and been happy with the performance over the past 7k miles. Just idly flipping through the manual though and I noticed it only calls for 87 knock index fuel. When I purchased, my service manager was adamant to use premium fuel. Does anybody run...
Forgot to mention earlier, that I also got in there and seated the spark plug wires that were all just sitting atop the plugs rather than pushed down onto them. Didn't help.
