Running premium will only make matters worse. The bike is tuned for regular (87 PON or R+M/2 method). Old harley habits are hard to break.

thanks wildchild, hope u r right

I've had this happen twice while preparing to slow down. Mine is a leftover 2013 model with about 200 miles.
I would pull the clutch to downshift and the engine shut off. I've also had numerous times where I go to downshift and the idle dropped so low that my oil light comes on for a second.
I figured it's an idle issue and am supposed to stop up at the dealer soon anyway. Please do keep us posted tho!

Here's my take on premium gas, no one buys it, it sits and collects sediment and moisture, look at the little gallons counter at the pump 91 less than 87 less than 83....
When I had the blown R3 I went through 3 filters and 2 fuel pumps due to bad 91 octane...

ROCKETHEAD, this may be true depending where you live. Some areas tend to have more cars that take premium than other areas. Also, some fuel stations are much busier than others, so the fuel doesn't sit as long.

They Daytona 955i guys fought with this for a long time. The different ways each country does the RON/MON math to come up with Octane caused some confusion years back about what the D955 actually needed.
The end result was that in the US, the right gas is 89 octane. People who routinely used 91/93 thinking they were doing their engines a favor came complaining of bad idle, less mileage, hard starting etc. No doubt this was not helped by the anemic starter fitted to the bikes. Many, including myself, noticed when changing to 89 nearly all problems resolved themselves. Anecdotal, yes, but there are statistically significant number of people who share this experience on the 2002-2006 D955i.

I for one wish they'd sell lower octane fuel without the ****ed ethanol around here, but no.

Welcome from California!
This is only in areas where the les per capita and population density is lower than.... we'll.... most of Southern Ca.

That's for sure! Just the other day I found myself sitting at a light revving my engine for no apparent reason, and looking around to make sure I was still the center of attention
I have learned that a well placed rev works better than the horn.... need louder horn. But hey! You can scare the pants off of the riders of an especially narrow minded class!
