2006 Rocket III Clutch Lifter arm position.

When @warp9.9 talks ...

Hello all!
Getting my butt whooped with this 2006 rocket iii clutch.
Turns out that being stored for so long, I had the clutch cable routed under the Triple tree which lead to the first attempt going wrong. .
On second attempt, I believe I had the plunger engaged correctly with lifted shaft, had the correct free play in the clutch lever. Was happy with finally nearing completion. After I took it for a test flight, upon return approx. 15 miles , I had no free play in the clutch lever . Clutch seemed to be engaging correctly in the center of the lever movement. When I loosened up the cable to achieve free play the lever when pulled had resistance but wasn't engaging the clutch fully . I took a chance and tightened the cable again to where it was before the test ride. . Clutch started slipping when I was cranking on the bike with clutch released on the second ride .
Can't figure out for the life of me what is going on?
Thanks for reading this and hope the explanation makes sense.

Tried to load pics but did not work maybe tomorrow.
on the lever you have four adjustments mine will only work on #1
2,3,4 just muck up the adjustments

The clutch lever 1-4 positions I interpret as how far you want the lever to stick out for more grip or position in your hand. I think in my case it wouldn't matter. Mine is set at position 1.. Can't understand how I lost the free play. I followed the shop manual thru a complete engine removal / reinstall due to 2nd gear and neutral issues. I sent my gear set to Robinson Industries in 2021. During the test ride , the bike shifted smooth with no issues.
I replaced the plunger , wavy washer and lifter shaft on second attempt to get the clutch right. I was told by Triumph that I should only install the wavy washer based on my VIN number. I purchased the plain washer but didn't install it.
Could my clutch friction plates be toastShould I have installed the plain washer?
I've adjusted many clutches on autos and motorcycles over the years and never encountered this type of issue.

the clutches will take some abuse but if they keep slipping then they will get extremely hot and go bad.
a couple of slips will not hurt them so probably good.
sounds to me like you need to put some play in that cable.

I read Another clutch question post on the lifter piece pictured below and lifter on the right is the one I just installed . The one on the left is what was originally in the bike with wavy washer only. This stumps me even more. I feel I'm rather late to the Rocket iii party .

When I adjust the cable for more free play " loosening it up", the clutch lever when pulled has resistance but doesn't engage the clutch . I seem to be at the very end of the adjustment at the clutch cover and the lever.

d on a friend's bike and when I checked it out didn't mater whether the washer was in there
Or not
Of coarse I am not sure if we are talking about the same washer.
