2.5 using oil

The cursed thing started leaking again so I don't think it's the bolt holes. I pulled it out and applied sealant to the inside of the case opening, on the sensor itself, put the o-rings back with another dab of sealant over the whole thing, more sealant on the face of the case opening and pushed it back in. Tightened finger tight and after about an hour torqued it down. The bike will sit for the next couple of days so everything can cure as much as it may.
The case opening surface is begging for a proper gasket but the engineers went full retard on the sensor housing design, kids in high school shop class could have come up with a better one. If it still seeps after this then I don't know what else to do but hopefully it won't.

While changing my oil I discovered that the oil filter was only snug at best as I have hand tightened those all my life and have pretty decent grip strength. This may have been another source of a slow seep but I used a ratchet on it and cinched it down to 10nm as per manual.

I've noticed that before, also. Curious what brand filter you are using?
 
After my oil and filter change yesterday I dumped the usual 5 quarts of oil into it, let it run until the fans kicked in and then let it sit over night. Upon following the oil check procedure this morning the level was at the minimum mark and after repeating the procedure it went to the 1/4 above minimum, then after a third time it went to the 1/2 mark. The oil couldn't possibly have expanded that much over a total of 4 1/2 min of run time so I'm guessing oil distribution over whatever chambers exist inside the beast.
 
I don't think you can do it back to back like that and get an accurate reading- you'd need to wait for the bike to completely cool down for some (unknown) period of time. Oh, for the good old days of a sight window when you could check it anytime you wanted (and much more reliable).
 
Maybe so but 5 quarts is actually the correct amount from experience so if it shows minimum after that it just means that a portion of the oil is being held back at the time and not draining down.
 
I'll just add 200ml and be done with it since I know how that affects dipstick level. I'm embarking on my 7000mi CA-Cape Cod and back adventure in about an hour and have what little oil I can carry with me. My beach resort in South Yarmouth already received the oil bottle I sent myself and I have a new tire waiting for me at MOMS Foxboro MA. I'll be at around 23K mi when I get back and do my valve adjustment etc service then.
