1 Quarter Mile At a Time

ALL tires will break loose on bad surface and car tires do nothing but slow you at track period again we use the METZ and we tried the others it will give you the best traction watch the video on the CARP website

HEY JUICE you must be one hell of a rider I never had a washout with a METZ but I did with my frickein car tire and Ive seen others also ask TRIUMPH PHIL about his wild ride thru the twisties on his car tire and he was riding on the sidewalls LOL

Why does it ALWAYS sound like your talking down to the rest of us ?

Ok there you have it, the one place that a Metz is good at. A straight line and only for a 1/4 at a time. Then you let it cool a little and do it again up to five times then replace. That tire sucks azz every where else you use it. I take a bald snow tire over a Metz and feel better about it.

Art why does every post end up with you jumping on the car tires suck bandwagon? The last I checked I didn't see not ONE Metz on a bike running the drag bikes. But all of them had a big azz car tire out back. Makes rethink your view of things. Maybe?

ANYWAY the fact is we do use them for DRAGRACING and I run them on the street with EXCELLENT results so if you guys want to get rid of them Ill buy them to use up at the track

Art, a guy is selling his used tires now. I think he was going to stud the rear but stopped over installing one in the tire. Just a thought.

I dont want to argue with you Art but, I changed the rear Metz to an Avon Cobra last year and there is an over the top significant difference in those two tires. First the straight line traction is so noticeable I can't help but laugh everytime I launch the bike now. If I tried to pull a hole shot with the Metz the wheel spin was so great I had to pedal or throttle the bike like crazy to slow the rear tire. Now on any hard launch I have no spin and I need to hang over the tank to keep the front wheel on the ground.

I could crack the throttle in 2nd or 3rd gear with the Metz and break the rear tire loose and do a little rip or burn out sideways on command. I cannot do that with the Cobra, now the front wheel comes up.

When cornering hard or accelerating through a corner the Metz would spin or kick out to the point I lost any confidence in the bike. The Cobra has not kicked out however I have had it spin once on an extremely hard throttle up out of a narrow and tight corner. I was playing hooligan that day and was pushing the bike extra hard. I have complete confidence in the rear tire now. Also when riding the twisty hard the rear braking is so much more controllable as the rear doesn't lock up or slide as it did with the Metz.

The only caveat here is that the Metzler ME880 was the factory tire. Although from 2000 miles to 10,000 I was never happy with it. I have heard that Metzler ME880 on a factory ride may not be the same as a replacement. I find that very hard to believe but I have also heard stranger things the OEMs will do to say a buck.

So far the Cobra is a winner in my book. Two other tires I have always been very pleased with on other bikes are the Bridgestone Battlax on H-Ds and the Dunlop Sportmax Q3 on the rice rockets.

I can't say I had any traction issues with the Metz, but at 3500 miles it was worn out. I guess if track performance is all that counts, then 14,000 passes is pretty good. Just stay out of the burnout box. I'll stick with the E Max.
