Best way to power up external GPS unit

This is what I believe to be the absolute best way. The nice thing is it gives you scalability when you want to add more accessories. Connects to the battery and senses when it’s one and off. Bullet proof and works extremely well. Does not get confused when trickle charging the battery.

Here is my installation: Triumph Rocket 3 - Installing Garmin zūmo XT/XT2 holder · The Blog of Boban Acimovic

I bought these two but do not know which I exactly installed. But these are cheap so you can do the same and decide which ones fit best.

THANK YOU!!

This is a really clean setup, but I have useablity question -- doesn't having the GPS power off with the bike make it much more difficult to follow a custom route?

I have my Garmin XT3 powered to the battery. When on a full day or multi-day trip, following my imported .gpx route, whenever I stop and turn off the bike I just put the Garmin to sleep. When the ride continues, the GPS picks up the route where I left it. At the end of the day, I power the unit off and remove it from the cradle.

Using your method, after every stop I'd have to find and select the route, NOT go to the start of the route, and wait for it figure out the next waypoint. I understand your way is much better for battery life, but most of my rides follow custom .gpx routes, so I'm better off powering directly to the battery, right? I'm assumming we just use our GPS' differently -- am I missing something here? Thanks.
