I really hope they don't use the Tiger 1200 display. I have one and that is the worst part about the bike. Not only is is really slow, booting up, switching information, anything it does. Runs like the CPU for it is at 5hz and it can't display more than one bit of information even though there is enough room for a ton of information. Want to see the water temp, then that is all you can see, want to see the fuel mpg, then you need to arrow back, get into the menu, do another arrow back to switch top menus, then arrow down into the trip display and then arrow down. Trust me, you just read that faster than you can do it in real life because of the 1 to 2 second pause between each step you need to have.

On a side note, my doesn't exist dream bike is an Indian Roadmaster with the air cooled frame, and a Rocket 3 engine in it with the shaft drive. It would be so very comfortable and walk away from Gold Wings.

The Rocket 3 is a remarkable bike, something Triumph should be lauded for pulling off at all. But lest Triumph reads these forums, i’ll just echo:

Have zero interest in adaptive cruise. The logic in favor of such - and on a motorcycle - is dubious to put it charitably.

The present TFT display is flat out poor. Between tiny font, dust/rain on a modest sized and subdivided screen, vibration, visor and/or sunglass dirt - it’s unintelligible to me other than the speedo, tach, and sorta/kinda the ride mode icons if only by recognizing shape not detail. Really is barely useable when it’s not also a liability. Then to learn after bought the bike that they fail not infrequently, and cost a bundle? Grr. This is the single issue that am hot about.

The rear brake matter is embarrassing.

The lack of a clear coat on exposed aluminum, so it all frosts, tarnishes, and pits - is a shame and a black eye on the brand. Sure do tire of other motorcyclists pointing THAT out.

4.6L -ish. The tanks are gorgeous, but 4.6L? Where I live, it’s entirely possible to commit to a route wherein less than tippy top fuel is not going to cut it. Such a big bike, such a modest range.

You can’t please all the people all the time, and tastes vary… but, the twin headlights are part of the big Rocket 3’s panache; hope the twin format stays.

When Triumph was planning the 2500 R3 they sent reps to the dealers to ask owners what was needed. The Triumph rep for our area was at our local dealer at that time for several question and answer visits. I spoke to him twice myself. I told him we wanted a Hooligan bike with 200 HP. A standard bike we could add bags and screen to and a full dress cross continent touring bike to outdo Goldwings. And with a matching trailer to pull. We all know what we got. To me, Triumph is missing the boat by not making the mega touring bike.

My guess is that the upcoming Tiger 1200 bikes and updated Rocket 3 will share the new updated TFT display. It will support apple carplay. Sam Sunderland was attempting to beat the world record for the shortest time to travel around the world. He is using a prototype of the upcoming Tiger 1200 bike for this feat.
. Apple carplay is visible at 10 secs . He failed to beat the record due to a bike breakdown.

I wonder if they don't make a big touring bike because they don't want to get in the mix with Indian and Harley. I could also see since it isn't a V-twin they figure they would be fighting with Honda's Goldwing and they didn't think the investment was worth the return. Or maybe even with the high output of the engine they would be fighting with the BMW K 1600.

So let's analyze what happened:

- Hooligan: solved. The R is and was more or less a Speed Triple on Steroids
- Standard Bike with Bags and Screen: solved. The GT gives you what you need
- Full Dresser: was verified and at the end not realized (spoke to engineers at Hinkley)

Keep in mind: BMW created the better bikes than the HD and the Gold Wing (R18 and K1600), but nobody wants them. So why should Triumph make the same error?

I always imagine the Rocket to be the motorcycle equivalent of a Bentley Continental. Enormous, comfortable, and with speed and handling on par or better than other extremely capable sports cars much smaller than itself.
I get that people might want a bit more practicality from their Bentley, enjoying it for it's refinement when others want it to be a bit more sportier. What I struggle to understand is wanting your Bentley to be able to tow a massive caravan, it is a want so far out of whack with the concept of the car that you would have to inherently change the car. The platform is just not for that, the same is true for the Rocket. The rocket could never be fit for purpose for a full dresser in the same way other bike platforms are which are purpose built.
A rocket can be a full dresser, but would already be behind better full dressers which already don't sell as Rockatansky beautifully pointed out.

I still want one.

Ah, now I remember when I first met you.

It was in that Supermarket, where you were lying on the floor kicking because you wanted something and the face of your mother said "why didn't that stupid moron did not use a condom..."

;)

And back to reality: there was a plan for a full dresser, but at the end they noticed it would have not been possible with the single swing arm. The designs showed a normal double sided swing arm, but that would have needed additional changes in frame and motor, so it had been cancelled.
