The new R3 does indeed have much better ground clearance for twisties; HOWEVER, only a few out of 100 riders of these huge motors will possess the skills requisite to push the older R3R to, or beyond, its max cornering capacity. 1) Unless you be one of the few . . . fagetaboutit. 2) The extea porwer to push the R3Rs extra weight past the R3 is easily attainable. 3) NO comparison - the R3R is a far superior touring motor. 4) Save lotsa $$$$, buy the R3R - IMHO.

MIne is for sale, it has bags, a Corbin seat and a Puig windscreen, all ready for a long ride.

The touring model is also a great choice for a bike that can actually do it all pretty good. Top for long distance no argument, and if alien aboard pretty good at hooligan stuff.
Agreed, after many Harley's, fjr1300, trophy, ST1300 and a few others; my new to me 2008 R111 Touring is going to be my end bike - once I upgrade suspension and a few tweaks...

The obvious stuff is obvious (price, newer Vs Older, etc.....) so I'll avoid those things.

IMO the following points are the big ones which will differentiate the bikes

New model
  • Contemporary styling
  • Faster, lighter, more riding tech.
  • Will embarrass 99.9% of other bikes off the mark
Old model
  • Bigger & chromier ( Classic cruiser look)
  • Seriously triggering to Harley riders. Same style but bigger and badder, insanely faster
  • Upsets wankers (or generates admiration) by looking like a massive cruiser but being faster than 98% of other bikes

Basically, do you want a crazy old school looking cruiser which will kill you, or do you want a contemporary muscle cruiser which is also insane and highly likely to kill you?

This is the best comparison I've seen. And what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right. Or crazier?

The weight would keep me away from the first gen. bikes. Its really to much on the new gen. as well. But its so cool I overlook it. But if you're the kind that would get a Road King ,for example, then I'd certainly get a first gen. Rocket before that. And put a 240 Carpenter on it....yup
