So riding yesterday, a couple of times, when decelerating or in cruise, I hear a noise, it's loud I can hear it over the engine. Sounds like a tin can being kicked down the road. Or a paint can being very vigorously shaken but it really was quite loud. Thought I was dragging a tin can and it was bouncing around under the engine. It seemed to stop when I pulled the clutch in. At standstill it seemed okay.

Clutch works fine. Not stuck in any gears, it finds neutral as easy as it ever has. Will also try the 5th gear roll it back to see if that sorts it if it is the tensioner.

I'll check the tensioner drop tomorrow. Was loud tho. Not had chance to try the bike since to listen to it more. 2011 R3R 33k miles.

Well, first thing that comes to mind is gasoline.......I trust you use Ethyl high test....premium.....91 or better octane? Any chance you have a bad tank of gas......oh, dear me.....petrol...... for you blokes across the pond.....:):):)

Hmmm......engine knock sound.......wrong/bad gas......? That could sound like big ball bearings but now you have me worried.......:(

Imagine putting a handful of bolts into food mixer with a metal bowl. It was mechanical for sure. Although bike ran fine, gears swapped fine. Clutch was good hence making me thing cam chain tensioner.

Fingers crossed. It was quite loud tho. I read all the items on the paint can rattle hope it's this too. It's just it was a fair old noise, enough to hear when riding at 30mph.

Worrying, very worrying indeed. I'm not the bloke to help here, I don't know the difference between a paint brush and a spanner! I'm sure it was warp who was talking some one else through a similar problem last week but I cannot remember the thread title!! See, no more use than titties to a chicken!!

Well this sounds weird. And especially since its a 2011 roadster. 33,000 miles on her when was the valves run and did some shims need changing? When this rattle well sounds to me like your talking more like a couple shovel getting hit together rather than dome nuts and bolts. So hmm I agree checking and measure the drop on the tensioner. The put the center nut back in snug her down and rock her back and fourth. In gear. First or second is fine. Then measure drop and see if it changed. I would also pull the inspection plug in front of the crankshaft ans with a small screwdriver or pick see if the chain is sloppy if you can. Oh and when this banging was happening d you d you notice any excessive vibration ?

I once had a piece of the radiator shroud rattling on startup, that had me thinking the worse. Removed all that plastic cwap, and no more noise. I hate plastic "look pretty" cwap. Looks more like a motorcycle now, instead of a car engined bike, with all that chrome plastic stuff all around the radiator.:)
