To recap: "Not sure whats going on, but I took the bike in to Team Roberts last week to get the fuel tank float arm refitted properly to the unit (it had come out of that little 'V' and was giving a false reading). Anyways, I hadnt used the Rock since then and after filling up tonight the RPM clock stuch on 800rpm and wont move (up or down), no instrument lights (but the background light is working). The instrument lights flicker on for a millisecond when I turn the ignition on. The RPM arm doesnt move even for startup cycle.
Also (!) the trip meter resets to 0 after the ignition is turned off and back on.
All the fuses seem ok to me and the speedo is working fine.
Any ideas?"
then: "This Mofo of a "fuse blowing" issue has raised its ugly mofo head again.
Just to recap....
Had this issue originally - got my local dealer to look at it - they could not find any problem. What they did do was "pack the connectors with electrical grease" and the problem never showed its head again - until yesterday (Sunday).
Went on a charity ride with about 1000 riders through Sheffield town centre to the kids hospital - however this ride was around an hour long at about 5mph. The engine was kicking out heat like there was no tomorrow. Anyways almost at the end of the ride the fuse blew again (I could tell as the rpm was stuck at around 1000rpm and no instrument lights).
At the first stop we tried replacing the fuse and f&ck me it sparked like a mofo so I guess there is a short somewhere in the beast. Since its not a show stopper of a issue I could carry on riding for the day, however I do need to fix it.
Some of guys reckon that due to the heat of the charity ride, the electrical grease would have melted out, and that the issue resurfaced as the grease was masking it in the first place. This sound plausable? If so, then I reckon its gotta be something to do with the ignition socket.
I wont know until I get the tank up but if anyone has any dapper ideas then let me know. I am going to take the oppourtunity to wrap the ignition relocation wire in heat proof tape if it makes sense to do so....."
Latest:
Right - finished work early got the bike out and set to it with spanners and the like....Bearclaw off, clocks off, seat off (dont ask), tank raised... lets have a butchers then.....
First thing I found was this....brilliant:
For those who cant see - the retaining bit of plastic has "broken off" the overflow tank. F*cking brilliant. Oh well....I dont think this is the cause of my fuse blowing.
Next thing I checked was the Rivco ignition relocation bits. Front bits - look OK to me:
Rear bit - also looks ok to me (Dave, note these are different connectors to yours!!):
Next thing to check is behind the ignition block itself. Looks OK to me:
But I did discover this "broken piece of metal" behind the ignition barrel (which is now on the blacking plate on the riders lefthand side of the bike). Anybody any idea what the f*ck this is (other than a broken bit of metal?), where its supposed to be? etc etc etc:
Not sure if the broken bit of metal is in anyway to do with the blowing of the fuse - heres some pictures of which fuse I am talking about:
Right - the ignition relocation wire has been disconnected from the main loom. That means the whole ignition barrel isnt connected. Right? Right! OK - I'm here, I will put a fresh fuse in. F*ck me if it didnt spark a big fat one at me - there is current still going to the f*cker (s'cuse the language - im not happy). I havent a f*cking clue whats going on. The problems lurking somewhere in here but f*cked if I know where it is!!
