I got to thinkin'.

With some similarities between the two bikes, will parts for the Roadster recall for installing a headlight/ignition switch relay work on the '08+ R3T's? My schematic-readin' faculties aren't good enough to figure it out. Oh yeah, and I'm functionally brain-dead when it comes to things electrical.

Also, I just spoke with my "local" dealer, and he said: 1) He didn't know if it would fit, 2) The only ignition failures he's encountered were on the older bikes ('04 - '06), and 3) He didn't think it was needed on the R3T since none have failed in his experience. He may have a vested interest, but I actually believe he doesn't think it's a necessary thing to do for the R3T.

If I were to do an EB kit properly, I'd be spending about $150. The new Roadster guys get it for free. If the same parts work on my '08 R3T, I'm guessing that they'd be less than $150 if bought through the stealership.

OK, let me have it.

Keith - iiriac it's only for 2010 Roadsters anyway - as the 2011 has a different loom. And I think the Triumph kit is a factory thing - so has no price as such.

Thanks. Google didn't pull it up. And I don't speak tekkie with any fluency.

So, first R3R was 2010 and first R3T was 2008. Which model year is the R3R recall for?

GR, the recall was to update the 2010 Roadster wiring to 2011 Roadster spec's. It is designed for the 2 headlight system and comes with a mess of wires, four (4) relays and a mounting bracket, but still doesn't run the lights directly from the battery. Which is why I chose to leave my EB in.
I'm thinking the reason the dealer believes it only affects the older bikes is because the newer ones don't have the miles on 'em yet. Otherwise, why is Triumph updating 2010 wiring harnesses?
My guess is the EB is going to cost less and you'll end up with a brighter light.
Is this even an issue with the single light R3T?

The Eastern Beaver kit is the way to go. As far as I know, the headlight is still wired through the ignition switch on all '08 models. The EB kit is easy to install and everything easily fits into the large R3T headlight shell.

If I remember reading it all correctly

barbagris gets a pass for indecipherable abbreviations because he is currently typing with only one paw.

OK. Ed and Harry talked me into it. But h.p.upgrades first, then I have to knock over a liquor store to get the bucks for an EB kit.

Thanks to all for their input.

Keith, the EB web site lists it for $59.95 or so. For what will you be spending another $90. Just curious. RocketEd and I had a parking lot conversation this the other day, and like you, I am not eager to start tearing into my wiring harness which I believe the directions call for. Ed did his a bit differently, which eliminates the parking lights (big deal), but does not require violating the harness. I am ordering one and Ed is going to help me to install it. You can get one too and ride up to my place. We could burn up your harness and then from the lessons learned, do mine correctly. 8)
