I don't know if this question has been asked before, so I'll give it a shot. Well guy's out of all the bikes out there, why did you buy the Rocket??? Was it the looks? Was it the Triumph reputation? Or maybe just love at first sight? There's bound to be some good answers to this question

was big and I liked the high gas tank and not too pricey in that order

Mainly for its ability to send those pesky, everywhere you look, HDs scooting for the garage dripping a trail of oil, kind of like a puppy when it is confronted by the biggest, baddest, dog on the block!!!

OK, that is out of the way. I have always been a big fan of Brit bikes, had my first one in the summer of 1970, had several more in the ensuing years. Now my knees protest at being contorted when I ride a sport-bike, so I went to the Triumph dealer to find a Rocket. I wanted a tourer, but didn't want all of the electronic doo-dads like you get with a BMW or GoldWing, the basic motorcycle of the R3 is perfect. I was adamant that I would not have an antiquated design, like a V-twin. And honestly, ever since HD talked the .gov into placing an import tariff on bikes that were over 700cc*, so they could compete with the imported bikes, I would watch a HD burn to the ground before I walked over to piss on it to put it out. Yes, it is a hatred that runs deep!

Plus being big, fast and reasonably nimble does not hurt either. Oh, and a chick magnet, did I mention that, if only I were even 20 years younger and single, this would be the bike to have!

First time I saw it I made the photo the screensaver on my computer. Loved the look and the spec sheet.

Looked for a long time before I bought one, I was a bit intimidated by the size and weight for my 68kg body...

Then I woke up and bought one, never looked back

Living up in the Northern Territory when i bought mine. Riding a 96 cube Dyna and ringing it's neck trying to keep up with the guys i rode with. They were on V-Rods and a 124 S&S Superglide... and one Rocket. Like others i demo'd a few times before i purchased. Loved the size and weight of it.. we'd sit on 160-200 kph once out of Darwin and the R3 handled all the ruts and potholes , nothing fazed it. Bought my Rocket in January 2009 (arrived in Darwin on my birthday) since then i 've done 96,000 klm on it all over Oz. Best bike i have ever owned , been riding for 37 years. Never owned a jap bike but had a Norton , heap of Triumphs ,just as many Harleys ,three BMW's and a Moto Guzzi .

Never test rode one, only heard one running at a dealer with stock whisper pipes. Bought mine long distance and wouldn't even pick it up til the fairing and bags were on it. Lifetime Triumph rider. Had to have it. Its odd like me

I bought a Hyosung Aquila Anniversary (Black) after a few bikeless years..worse bike I ever owned.. after 2 months went looking for something else.. my wife spotted the R3 but I was looking at MVs and Ducatis etc. 3 times on different visits she dragged me over to the R3.. the dealer offered a test ride and a price for the Black embarrasment.

So I took it out 2up.. that was a challenge I can tell you.. but I managed to wrestle it around in city traffic for an hour, got back safely and did the deal

I don't know why I do this but I often find myself standing in the Garage just standing and looking at it..Don't ask me... it's an amazing piece of machinery and when it gives me little problems I fix'em without complaint.. after all, what other bike makes you Smile! while your riding Pride Rules !!!

Always wanted a red one since they came out but too much money tied up in other toys, 4 other bikes, drag car, HZ one tonner restoration project....
Anyway, was in the local Triumph/Harley dealer with one of my daughters and looking at the T Bird just for interests sake and was approached by a bloke who quietly asked if I was interested in an R3.
At that moment in time I wasn't really in a position to buy anything else unless I got rid of other stuff, but, curiosity got the better of me. Both of us went outside to listen to the chap.
To cut a long story short he'd bought it in January 09 with all the extras, screen, bags, lambswool seta covers etc. then promptly lost his job and wife left him at the same time.
That was April 09 so only a few months old, told me what he needed to get for it to get out of trouble. I said I'd give it some thought and my daughter said I'd be an idiot if I let it go even though it was black.
A week later I was riding it home.
