Sounds like the front bearing TDU is around the wrong way, it needs an oil supply ............replace it 8) You may also want to replace the housing the later one is machined deeper to allow more room for the bearing, preload was compromised by the original part.

Thanks, there are 2 interesting pictures there, one with the seal on the end and one without !
Which is correct ?

The picture in the sequence headed "bearing fitted wrong way round" shows the seal, when fitted this way it reduced the amount of oil being fed to the bearing through the hole in the bearing housing.
When correctly fitted the bearing is "open" to as much oil delivery as possible and the seal retains some oil in the bearing.

Hope this makes sense.

Hi Mark, with the bearing correctly fitted to the shaft the seal will be "hidden" by the gear, and the bearing "open" side will be fed through the hole in the housing by "splash". I understand what you are saying, and I actually rang the Triumph factory and spoke to the tech. guys to confirm it was correct.I did not/do not really understand why the bearing needs a seal at all on either side but Triumph seems to think it is neccessary "to retain some oil" (quote)
Hope this is useful.
