Which gear for 60mph?

I'd love to get 280km before the light comes on, Mitch. Actually would be thrilled with 220km. I have similar mods to you. I use 5th all the time, often under 2000rpm, so might try running around at slightly higher revs for a while and see what difference it makes. Not that it matters.............:D

Recalling another thread - I'm definitely getting 20-30 extra kms per tank since switching from Premium/Ultimate (98 RON) fuel to standard unleaded (91 RON). And it's running better.

I've always used 98 octane fuel in mine except when I'm on a trip and it's not available . I think I read somewhere that 91 is bad for the engine but don't quote me on it

I thought so too - but look here http://www.r3owners.net/general-tech-talk/10074-octane.html?highlight=Octane. Been "on it" for a few tanks now and very happy - more grunt, quieter engine, less petrol smell in the exhaust, virtually no 'puff' from the pipes on hard acceleration, easier starting, better economy. I now have an "octane" jar at home; drop $3 in every time I fill up. Should be around $300+ a year and will use it for something useful for the bike. Of course, if it ****s the engine, I'll blame HellFire :p

I only get about 190 kl out of mine before light comes on. Computer says about 80 to empty usually get 40 and it says 0. Takes 17 to 18 litres to fill . How many litres do they hold.

Bruce, I often get around that mileage, sometimes better, sometimes worse. Tank is meant to hold 24 lites. I put a wisker over 23 in once.

Ooops, slipped one through the censor.
How did you get the f-word thru and I can't? LOL

Low octane is the way to go ... you are proof of that, am I right? Faster burn makes for more power right up until it pre-detonates. And if it ain't pre-detonating then it's burning efficiently.

That "Octane jar" is a good idea, imagine if you could market one of those to folks who drank the "Amoco Cool-aid" ... I'M RICH, *****!!! lol

I run 87 octane, always have.
Not that I'm cheap or anything, just seems to run better on it.
She hates ethanol tho, stinks to high heaven and misses.
Burn that crap out and fill with fresh 87 and she purrs like a kitten.
More like Roars like a lion truthfully...;)

"Lugging?" How do you "lug" a tractor engine? The compression ratio is 8.5:1 so exactly define "lug" for me. If the engine was running 12:1 I could buy that as a concern but this isn't some fizzy sport bike that spins the crank to 17,000 rpm. Also the maximum torque is available just above idle where you are "lugging" the motor. I think you may be comparing apples and oregano (or smoking it).

Fuel economy is directly proportional to the angle of the right wrist. I found on a cross country ride with a herd of Harleys I got 50 mpg because I spent 90% of the time with my right wrist at 0% throttle. On the way back I spent most of my time at normal throttle and got 33 mpg.
