Yep thats what it is.........Those are off my bike, and I replaced them with TOR's and a bypass pipe, gained around 10RWHP
somewhere on the forums is a pic of the bypass pipe, purchased off ebay
Was told that on Roadsters catalytic converters in silencers and that the boxes on pipes are collector boxes and don't impact performance so bypass not needed. I have a '12 roadster like you. Where did you get the bypass pipes for your '12 Roadster?
Yes the cats are in the pipes, I replaced them with the TOR's (Triumph off road pipes), I looked at the shorty pipes but at double and then some the cost of the TOR's............ I got the bypass pipe off of ebay at this link
Someone on here cut open a collector and posted pics, while no cat is in there, it is full of bits and pieces that would appear to restrict the flow a bit
Cat box either its filled or a hollow look a like depending on its weight. As for what would happen if you get rid of it. Well first a noticable power increase once the proper tune is installed and then a fuel mileage decrease from screwing the throttle to hard to often. Oh and you face will begin to hurt from the seet eating grin you will have
That about sums it up !!!
Mystery solved....the thingamabobber is a an empty box on a balance pipe. Cats in silencers so minimal gain for roadster with is configuration to purchase bypass pipe to replace empty box.
Thanks to all of you whosamajiggers who chimed in.
