Watch out for Slick Looking Stuff!

Can honestly say i've never hit Amish horse-sh!t , snakes , chain saw lube ... or any of the other stuff you blokes have encountered ... Deisel was my downfall, never had a set of wheels go out from under me so quickly. Like Canberra im still skitzy on the Rocket on wet roads... Amish horse-sh!t, thats a crack up man

I was riding through ballina Nsw a couple years ago and it was pissing down and there was deisel spilled on the road geeeez i thought i was going to drop her for sure the wind was blowing a gail into the side of me and i was riding very slowly but the bike felt like it was on skates very scary.

probably should have taken notice of the sign i passed saying caution diesal on road

yep,
"that", (oil or whatever)
road kill,
and harley parts,
about the only things a man has to look out for
on the road around here.
Well, that, and snakes...
Glad you made it through that
"oh crap" moment alright.

Harley parts :D

scariest moment I had many years ago ridding home from work (bakery) at 6am in Canberra on my Yamaha XT 500 dirt bike, it was -6 and I hit Black Ice!!!! luckily I was going in a straight line but I moved about 3 feet across.. nearly lost it and went home and changed my undies:eek:

Friday night I had a bit of a fright. 2 miles from home and hit some anti-freeze or chain saw lube I don't know. I came down a hill and saw slow traffic ahead. I was slowing down with the engine and just as I applied the rear brake`I noticed something on the road. She went left and I corrected and then to the right and I don't know why I never went down. I had the O'l left food dragging like I was on a half ton dirt bike. The truck that had the problem pulled over at the top of the hill. After the yelling we looked it over and found nothing leaking. He said he just liked to drive slow with his little truck and big trailer ( F250 with a 16 ft trailer and 2 quads). Bullshi. He had a problem and would not admit it. I called 911 and begged the opperator to get somebody to clean it up. It was gone the next day, and we had a lot of rain latter that night. Scarred the crap outa me!

why do you use the rear brake? it is a question not a statement I sure would like to know.. also who teaches rider to use the rear brake alone I have so far found nobody in teaching classes that would explain to me the advantage of using the rear brake for stopping .. i was taught a good usage of rear brake was to alter your line in a turn at high speed and I can say it did work in tightening the radius and when riding 2up it has effective stopping power due to the weight on the rear wheel (the heavier the passenger the better the braking otherwise it is in my view ineffective in slowing and stopping without the front brake..

I guess my pet peeve is to rambling about it so pay no attention ..

Hey Kid you coming to Marble Falls ?

In this area of Ohio I'm in, they like to tar and gravel the country roads even when its not needed. So every summer you have to watch out for the roads you have not been on in a while because you never know when you turn onto your old favorite road and find its covered in loose gravel everywhere.

I still have not figured out how they can justify doing that when it is so dangerous to motorcycles.

They do the same thing here in my county outside St. Louis. It scares the piss out of you when you find yourself trying to recover in a spot you used to sail through. Very dangerous.

Reminds me of a fellow who used to tour with my dad and his friends. They all had Goldwings, he had the only Harley. He always encouraged the others to look for falling parts and he would buy them back at the end of the day ! Another time someone asked him why his old shovel head didn't have a tachometer. He said it wasn't needed, just rev her till the bolts start backing out, then shift !

For some reason the mayflies have come out in force in the last two days
They are so bad in Hastings ( town about 8 miles away )
That the bridge across the mississippi river had to be plowed and sanded due to the amount of mayflies
Two cars lost control and crashed head on due to the mayfly slime

I'm with you Patrick. I do wear my back brake pads so I must use it some but all my heavy stopping is with the front. In addition to what you say, back brake is also handy for coming to a dead stop at lights when I'm using my right hand to, say, lift the visor or "wave" ;) at someone. I also use it when coming down my drive and need to press the gagage door opener.
