After reading the article in Cycle World, it seems like a 4 cylinder Rocket.. A little lighter, a little more HP, a little less torque.. but the same concept. But it doesn't look to be as good of a do-it-all bike as the Rocket is.

It's not the same concept. The compression ratio is over 11. Peak horsepower, which is about 60 more than a stock Rocket, is at 9000 rpm. It's not even a cruiser. It's a giant naked street fighter.
Open house thrown by the main local Yamaha dealer here, to celebrate the first unit to land in Geneva, tomorrow a.m. It's a low profile event (surprisingly so, given the early 2008 hype). I just happen to be be invited, thanks to a former V-Max owner. It'll be a static display, says the dealer principal, but the former arrogance (place your order NOW, i.e. in July 2008 if you want to be on the priority list in early 2009, cash deposit required, no discount and no trade-ins, etc.) seems to be toned down.
In any case, list price here is 22% higher than that of a std Rocket. Add that to a ridiculous gas tank capacity and bizarre aesthetics (the cans suck, so does the rear guard IMO), and I'd expect a ...20% rebate when the supply situation improves (and/or "global" economic conditions keep on deteriorating)
I have a freind that works for YAMAHA he said they have gotten as high as 45mpg just cruising @70mph on the highway but if you hammer it its going to drink fuel just like the zx14 and BUSA and the R3 he also said that the bike they tested had very slippery tires and they couldnt get any grip at the strip BUT that they have run mid 9 secs with the stickier tires that will be used on the production bikes they are also going to offer an trackpac which consists of 4 into 1 pipe ECU air intake etc good for 220+ hp 180 mph top speed and low 9 sec times Now were talking
Ok, I have just seen it in person. I even sat on it. My impression? This thing is fugly: more than half a dozen mismatched shades of brushed aluminium and greyish paint, three shades of fat black, weird chestnut brown engine covers, all black front end including the fork tubes, other ill-assorted bits and pieces, tortuous and bulky cans... and a massive, highly-perched rear guard that looks as if the bike had been rear-ended.
