2013 Triumph Rocket III Roadster
We have a 2012 Rocket III roadster in the workshop that started out about a year ago to have a Turbo Connect upgrade,
with new hardware fitted and the TubeBoy app flashed to the motorcycle ECU.

All sounded pretty straight forward and was pursued with confidence.

There's also a Dynojet Power V commander module attached,
so the owner can dyno in Savannah and tweak the tune later.

The package came with a Ross-Tech kkl-409 cable supplied, to access the ECU and flash data from TuneBoy or TuneEdit.
This is something like an EPROM programmer and needed to get whatever you do from TuneBoy, written into the motorcycle ECU.

There are various versions of a Ross-Tech kkl-409 cable, some are FTDI and some are not, then there are as we know various operating systems in use among tuners.
Therefore be prepared for compatibility issues and heed the warning provided by Ross-Tech themselves on their website.

Here-in lay the first problem encountered when the Mitsubishi developed VAG-COM software was installed off disc.

The drivers appeared to install just fine at first, we flashed the ECU from VAG-COM,
flashed the tune map into the ECU and watched it download successfully.

Then, the instructions advised turning the bike ignition off and turning it back on again,
(in order to load the authentication dialogue box, which would allow us to enter the product key).

At this stage, the ECU is wiped, flashed with a map from TuneBoy, locked, awaiting an authentication key.

This however is what came up :banghead:

The USB drivers had somewhere lost access to the ECU and do what we might, it was impossible to get back into that ECU,
even using Triumph software and trying to reload the original 20352 standard tune map.

Drivers looked fine, uninstalled and reinstalled them several times, manually installed the VAG-COM software again and again
- however same error kept coming up every time we tried to use Flash Keihin.

ECU locked down and at this point Triumph suggests sending the ECU back for factory reset and an "I told you so."

Got hold of TuneBoy sales in Australia, then managed to set up a debugging session and remote install.

success! We have the TuneBoost map loaded from TuneBoy, throttle positions set and we're ready to start.

Word to the wise however :ninja: don't use the cheap kkl-409 VAG-COM cable to flash the ECU with TuneBoy or TuneEdit software.
Its unsupported and not even recommended by Ross-Tech themselves.

Purchase instead a compatible OBD II bluetooth dongle, or find something that will work wirelessly and may even be supported with an App from your smartphone.

Might be a little more expensive, but at least it will work:coffee:
