I just arranged to buy a set of TORs from Les in Montreal. I am also committed to buying a cat bypass and possibly a Tuneboy. My question is what is the db level of the TORs with a cat bypass?

I know that other combinations crank out more power, but the 95 db of the Jardines scares me. (Ha ha my last bike was an FLH with Paugho exhaust.) I've listened to the sound files. And I've paid attention to the discussion. I have the impression that the TORs aren't as loud as the other available combinations. Has anyone measured them? Les is selling me the TORs because they are too loud where he is. Here in Central Washington straight-piped Harleys don't get noticed. But I am still curious about the sound level of the TORs.

Can't give you a decibel rating but my TORs without CAT are at least as loud as the Santee short shots on my Fatboy.

I'm looking at a way to tone them down, for the winter at least. Somehow they seem to sound louder in the winter.

I have the TORS too. Too loud for my tastes but I guess loud pipes save lives. Anyhow I feel like I need earplugs but then I wouldn't be able to hear the swoons as my "fast-red" Rocket passes the ladies. Deafness is a small price to pay for that.

I really don't understand why Triumph don't make an exhaust with baffles that can be removed and refitted easily. Some people don't buy the TORs because they're too noisy, others don't buy them because they're too quiet!

I run the standard pipes with the cat bypass and for me that sounds about right. But there are some days when I'd like it to be a bit quieter and some days when I'd like it to be a bit noisier. If I could achieve a change in volume by spending 5 minutes with an allen key removing or refitting baffles that would be great

I suppose in theory it would need a re-tune every time you changed baffles, but I could live with setting the tune to suit my normal baffles and accept that it would only perform at 99% if I changed from that.

simonr, I started out stock then added the bypass. Wanted more sound and performance so added one TOR. Wanted more of the same so added two more TOR's and the Tuneboy. Great results, not too loud IMHO. Keep in mind I wear foam earplugs and a full face helmet. You can swap out any number of TOR's for stock pipes in a very short time. Try them out, I don't think you will be disappointed.
