I have been reading the threads on all the options anyone can think up. Fat tires, skinny tires car tires etc...
I just struggle with the simple "rule" . Run like ties front and back. I guess that has been tossed out?

I think it might steer funny with a 240 on the front ;)

I think the rule still applies even if you're not using the same brand. Matching things like ply, speed and weight ratings is far more important than having the same brand name. Now if Bridgstone actually did an Exedra Max in stock size (for a non-Touring) I think more people would match front and rear. Or if Avon did a rear (preferably in 240/55) that actually stuck in the wet, same outcome. Meanwhile, finding a pair of tyres that work well together is the most important thing.
