Tire Issue

Not built to go that fast?!?!? Bull****. I routinely run my R3T to 120 and beyond (speed limiter set at 130) and its very stable. I did have a bit of a high speed weave at 100+ with the original Bridgestones, but since switching to Avons its dead steady. I've got a couple of thousand miles left on the Avons and then we'll see how the free Metzlers work.

High speeds on a heavy bike will absolutely eat tires. Even more so as the temperatures rise. There's no free lunch....
 
Revisiting an old post, I know, but it sounds as if I have a similar issue and I could use some advice.

I swapped out my rear Dunlop for a Metz 880 I had in my garage (about 2 yaers old, 1000 miles on it) this weekend.

On the way home from the shop, I felt a distinct rear wobble at 80 MPH. I slowed to 65 to keep the bike stable but the wobble persisted, just a little less than at 80.

It sure feels like a balancing issue. The rear is at 40 PSI.

I had dropped 2 OZ of dynobeads in the tire as I always do.

Ideas?
 
I thought of that. The tires have been sitting in my garage rafters for a while. At the shop now balancing the rear and swapping out the front Dunlop for a matching Metz. That Dunlop might've been cupping. We'll see...
 
Sorry but the kind of wobble Rooster is describing is NOT due to balancing. This would give a vibration or high frequency, low amplitude wobble at most providing a rim is not bent.
Either there is an alignment issue or there is turbulence being generated by the bags or windshield. I had a similar problem on a Harley after fitting a shield.

The dealer's mantra is always " you are going above the intended speed" but this is total BS. I can take my R3 up to 120 mph with perfect ease and no instability at all!

I would take the bags and shield off and ride it to 120 again. If ok, add bags or windshield...either/or and see what gives. If The bike still wobbles with both of these items off...check your wheel alignment with a laser.
 
I found that with the large touring screen on when I had the Metz as well as with the CT it would start to do a slow weave after I went past 180 km once I changed the front tyre to the Shinko it did not start till 200 km but It has never done it with the Fly screen on even been up to 220 km with out a wobble (CT on) so my take on it is the touring screen is the biggest problem followed by a Metz tyre on the front. I might Add in All occasions the tyres were at correct pressures and in good condition, I do not wera a tyre below the indicators as I like to live and push in the corners to take chances with excessively worn tyres
