I managed 193 miles 33 miles past "0" on a standard tune 2009 R3t in the Scottish highlands A & B roads between 50 & 70mph.

When I filled up it appeared that there was loads of fuel left in the tank.

What kind of milage can I realistically expect from a tank riding carefully?

I have a Scandinavian tour planned for next year... just trying to get my head round the bike. Obviously the guages are not to be trusted.

This is a great site by the way!!!

I think a reasonable max range on the R3T would be around 220 miles. By that, I mean you'd be on vapors by that point. I base that on a 5.89 gallon tank and figuring a reasonable mpg average of 38 mpg. I got 38 on mine pretty consistently. I *occasionally* got 40 or so, but not too often.

Careful with this one. There are threads that cover this issue.

In short, how much fuel did you put in the tank initially? That's part of what will determine how far you can go.

Also, there's a heckuva difference between 55, 70 and 85, fuel economy-wise. I guess i could get near 240 going 45-55 on backroads all day. And I will get 145-160 doing 75-85 for long distances.

Btw, I HIGHLY recommend you manually calculate your mileage a few times to get a feel for what *you* average. Then, you'll know what *your* range is. I HIGHLY recommend you do NOT rely on the fuel gauge.

Hi swampy, I usually get the low level light on between 90 and 120 miles depending on how I'm driving. I have travelled 70miles after it came on but was cacking it by that time, I still had a small amount of fuel when I went to fill it up.
Be carefull when the others talk about milage as the units are different over the pond.

As well, there's a warranty fix for faulty low fuel lights. My dealer ran a quick tune and it's now pretty accurate.

I know this is true as I rolled into the dealer @ zero (0) miles left (per the fuel indicator) the other day and it took 6.6 gallons to refill the tank afterward.

I had ridden about 165 miles at that time.

I ride in between 80 and 90 mph most of the time and get about 33mpg. never tried riding at 45 mph for any distance. iven on the bqackroads, I am at 50 to 60. I do want to run it out of gas to understand just how far I can get however. :D

I can get 200 miles+ on every tank, but since we generally stop every 125 I usually fill up then.

I get about 120 - 125 miles before I stop to fill up .. normally it's around 1/2 full or a tiny less at this point, so i'm assuming I can do about 225 before I get into a glide path to do a dead stick landing near a gas pump.

cheers
