It seems the last couple/three times out my tach will have a mind of it's own.

If it acts up it is only at start up and will be 3 or 4 thousand optimistic with very little movement from then on regardless of real engine speed.

Original battery and has been on a float charger during the winter.

Any ideas are welcome, thanks.

I can't make time this weekend to even look at it but I'll check out those wires and I'll keep you in mind skip thanks.

Sorry, I was thinking old tech they used to take the tach signal from the coil. It is probably the crank angle sensor that signals the tach through the ECU.

Are you sure? I haven't checked, but the new TuneBoy programme can make the tacho do different things such as showing throttle position.
Rather clever that! - If they come up with a way to make the speedo/tacho needles visible at night - Then I'll be impressed.

If I find a cheap instrumentation loom or the loom connector block (I don't like hacking original bits) - I'll be fitting decent "clocks".

Coil input wires are always worth checking ANYWAY.. looked at mine after firing issues, the input leads were VERY slack!! take them off & crimp up with pliers.
