I've thought about it. Technically, it could be done, but it'll take some work and it'll cost some $$$ even if you do it yourself.

If you succeed in doing it--or have someone else do the work--please let us know how it went.

From recent experience (my posts relating to seat work can be found on this site), it may just be worth buying the seat you want (Russell Daylong, Corbin, Triumph, etc.).

Lastly, I'm still trying to alter an adjustable rider/passenger rest that I bought for my last bike to fit my R3T. I just may be able to do it, and if so, MAN, that will be cool!

Cost would be for just the triumph backrest which is pretty nice. I haven't seen the need to get rid of my perfectly good stock seat yet as my bum is pretty tough from being married 34 years.. In any case IF I screw it up I would only mess up the stock seat and I see those on ebay new for 50 bucks all the time. Guess I will just have to buy the backrest and think on it for a couple cases of beer. I really like how that one looks. Not real keen on the aftermarket ones though i am sure they are very comfy.

I had it done , the guy who done it shaved my seat , to try and lower it for me , (short legs ) was a waste of time it was the width he could not alter.

Any way he cut a hole in the bottom and installed a peice off tubing , coming through the bottom inside the seat he then made a backrest on a slightly narrower tube , which just slotted in , instant removel if you want .

Any way waste of time it was horrible , because he actually done it at the edge of where the pasesenger seat meets the drivers seat on the bend , it meant that the 2 inches off backrest encroached onto the drivers seat area pushing me forward and sticking in my back . it could be changed but you would either have to be very slim or only ride solo ,

If its solo you ride its quite a inexpensive way for a removeble backrest but like i said make sure it does not push you too far forward

So if he had put it where it should of been you would been more pleased with it. do you have any pictures of what NOT to do?
thanks

I'll get a pic of mine.
I like it.
It's a triumph riders backrest,
bought it off e-bay for a hundred bucks.
Had a plastic box fabricated for it to slide into.
(once again, Thanks goes out to Lon)
Cut a hole in a perfect leather seat I got from Tony,
(that was hard to do)
slipped it all together,
drilled 4 holes in the seat pan and bolted it together.
After prolonged use and heavy throttle useage,
I'm not sure I'd ever want to be without one again.
perfect fit for a 6 ft tall man, at least this one.

Not got any pictures , not sure how too do them either , but the method was the same virtually has xd explained .

If it was put where it was supposed to go it would off took two inches off the pillion seat ,

Thats why the touring seat is actually longer than the normal one
