So the new to me Rocket has Jardine pipes and a K&N filter under the seat. Checking underneath the right side cover it still has the original Keihin ECU.

There's quite a decent amount of popping on decel, and I was wondering if this means that the bike was never properly tuned for the increase in air flow?
 

It could very well be...I would look through the “resources” to find a tune that closely matches your setup if possible. I would put that on my bike and see how it compares. If you backup your current tune you can always go back to it if need be. Of course the best way to find out is to have it dynoed and have it tuned properly. That can be expensive and finding someone you can trust to do a good job is another thing to consider. I’m sure someone will chime in with a tune that should fit your needs.

I think we had this discussion before that the underseat K&N doesn't do diddle-squat and its a very easy process to open the air intake up properly.

You can pop the rivets from the plastic air routing duct attached to the underside of the seat but that doesn't do too much either.
 
Got my cable in and swapped to the HansO tune. Throttle response is more smooth, but I may have lost a little power. Still have decel popping.

I'll give the Power-Tripp tune a try next time I take it out.
 
For what it’s worth, add the ramair system. Then get it on a dyno.

You must have a complete system to get an advantage. What you currently have is a big cup with a small straw.

These is sooo much to be gained by having a bike dyno tuned. Better performance, better fuel economy, cooler engine temps, reliability, and the decel popping should be gone or nearly gone.

These bikes from the factory are very lean to meet emission standards. Once you go changing stuff, you run a risk of creating a time bomb.
 
I'm currently looking for somebody in the southeast to dyno tune it. There are exactly 0 dynos in my city unfortunately

You didn't say but does it have a Power Commander on it? Jardine always recommended to have one installed.

Send me your e-mail address I'll send you couple that might be better for you. Definetly if your going to want a base a good base tune to have in her. Are you using the O2 sensor?
