Squeal under acceleration

Hi everyone

I had this same issue although the squeal was clearly audible when the bike was
under power as described elsewhere in the post.

I was quite sure it was from the engine but this was not the case.
During last winter when i changed my fork springs i discovered that damper rod
locknut on the RS forkleg was torqued all the way down, and not 15.5mm as the
manual describes. I assambled the legs according to the manual.

Now in the spring when i got out on a test ride the squeal was gone.

I wont be able to check on any of these till back in Florida but I have never had the front end apart . . and I have owned the bike since new, 40,000 miles on it without an issue.

Im sure its not the output shaft bearing. Water pump would be all the time not just under hard acceleration, same with oil pump. The only bearings up front are input shaft and counterbalancer. That leaves clutch, cam chain tensioners or something odd like fork tubes or intake manifold. Dealer said he has had the clutch make a squealing sound when it is going. Keep in mind I am a big boy, momma isnt exactly twiggy either and I have pulled a trailer for many of those highway miles. All power restrictions are off on the ECM and equipped with a darkside.

I'm betting on the clutch for now but am still open for suggestions . . I've got another long trip coming up in a couple of months (Florida to Maine) and need to figure this one out.
 

Given circumstances you outline I am pretty certain its the clutch BD, if it is standard OEM not upgraded then your on a safe bet..

Its not a difficult to replace with a kit and HD springs, had mine down recently.. just be mindfull the first and last plate`are special for their postions, and you will need a sevice tool to lock the basket up to remove the inner hub spline nut, I just got a tool sent over from US Dennis Kirks website $15.

this problem and oil leaking from the rear of the head gasket im pretty pissed off with bike altogether.
 
I do believe the dreaded output shaft bearing is starting to rear its ugly head . . . new noises on the ride today. Hopefully it will make the 450 mile ride home . . .

Had an offbrand (yamaha) that had a squeal and it was intake related. On a pull the intake sleeve on on cyl was leaking and made a squeal. If you are unsure get a few professional opinions before you disect the beast.........really hard to listen to noise when its apart on the bench.
 
Clutch is coming apart this weekend. Tool was ordered and came in yesterday. I rode it home from MV and the squeal started coming more frequently but the vibration didnt really get any worse. 450 miles plus on the way home and it shifted and rode fine, just the squeal and a certain amount of increased vibration. I dont think it is the output shaft bearing or the transmission. I am leaning toward the clutch bearing and sleeve being bad. That would explain everything. I'll know by the end of the weekend
 
How much play should be in the auxiliary drive chain for the oil / water pump?? There seems to be a lot in mine and the bearing on the drive sprocket for that chain seems really sloppy.
