Sprung and unsprung weights.

Does anybody have the Sprung and Unsprung weights for an R3 Standard?

If you have the front/rear distribution and individual front/rear unsprung weights better still.

Why? - Suspension (especially fork) upgrades. Progressive rate springs (maybe air), re-valving and maybe other things like adjusters.

Anybody who's done any mod's - would appreciate changes in Static and Dynamic sag as a result.

They MAKE all parts themselves - no off the shelf kits. The fabrication workshop area is engineering ****.

You may have to get the bathroom scales out to the garage and do some wheel weighing, and bottom half of suspension weighing, and swing-arm weighing, and. . . Then again, 97lb, 7.5oz may work. Then again, it may not - I'm just guessing.

Bloody hell - if your bathroom scales will cope with an R3 - I'll guess you've put on weight.

It'd cope with the wheels - if you took them off. However, you have to remember that American bathroom scales have to have bigger capacity than European ones.

Rear Wheel - with disc/cushdrive and Metzler - 25kgs. Front with Disks and Metzler - 17kgs. I have a spare set.

I currently run with a slightly lighter front rubber and slightly heavier rear., as do you.

The the rear one has to add unsupported bevel drive, swing-arm and brake calliper/support. Not unsubstantial. 10-15ish at a guess.

To the front - Mudguard plus fork sliders and the bottoming cone. 5-10 ish.

Total Bike wet weight (published) 350kg plus some kgs more for engine bars, sidecases, screens etc. Say 15-20 more all told.

Me? - Not telling. OK just over 82Kgs street clothed. Add say 5-10 kg for full leather bike gear. Lid alone is 1.5kg. It adds up.

The missus in full gear, say 70 - tops.

i.e. Fully loaded - two up getting on for half a metric tonne.

Good base values I hope.

i am a little lost the way i figure if your ridding along and you hit a bump in the road with 82kgs on the way up would you be sprung and on the way down be unsprung and if you were sitting at the light would you subtract leg weight (unsprung).

I have put my bike, with me on it, on a truck scale a few times (there is one that you can just drive onto next to a grain silo a few miles from me - it is still on over the weekend but nobody there) and it usually runs about 1050lbs. That includes Hepco Becker bags with stuff in them.

Ah but you see - This is an advantage of the Darkside - if your balance is good you don't need to put your feet down - Where's Art?

Ian that's 477kgs - So loaded with pillion well over half a tonne - A little bit awe inspiring when you think about it.

A meandering thought - I wonder how much a C/F wheel really saves in weight As an overall % of unsprung weight. Taking into account that I suspect the rear tyre weighs a fair bit less. Front too at a guess.
