posted this question to an old thread, no responce, so thought I'd try this way.
speedo just stopped working. needle moves with key turn on, back light on in unit, but no speedo or odometer when moving. only thing out of the ordinary before it stopped working, accidently turned bike off with kick stand.

Hi

There are 3 components involved, the instrument panel, the Vehicle speed sensor and the ecm (engine control module)

There are 2 electrical wire coming from the instrument panel going to The speed-sensor and 1 wire from the speed-sensor to the ecm.

Sound like the Instrument panel is fine.
The speed sensor is probably ****ed.

If you have a tuneboy, connect it to the bike (ecm) and check the speed-sensor with the diagnostic program that comes with TB.
Or go to the dealer and let him check out the sensor.

It is unlikely that the kickstand switch triggered this problem, thou nothing is impossible.
the kickstandswith is connected to the ecm Connector A pin 18
The speedsensor is also connector A pin 21 (different row and far away from pin 18)
fyi connector A is the smallest of the 2 connectors to the ecm
the color of the speed-sensor wire is pink/yellow
The color of the side-stand switch is red/black
the second side-stand wire is black(pin06)

Kind regards

Vic

I had same problem during first week of ownership. Just quit working. Dealer replaced at not charge. I also learned that when it stops working the computer defaults to "limp home" mode. Frankly, I could not tell any difference but apparently there is less power available at full throttle.
