any ideas?

Ive been getting a faint smell of something electrical heating up?

havn't seen any smoke, and the best my nose can find.. it that it might be coming from under the gas tank? and maybe slightly forward of the front seat?

Ive never pulled the tank up yet.. but maybe this weekend I might give it a shot.

I looked at some of the connectors etc, after pulling the side covers.. and they seem to have some white gunk on them..

should I use something like wd40 to clean out the connectors etc?

You'd be amazed at what can stick to the underside of your cat box or exhaust system. I've had that problem and thats usually what it is.

do not clean the gunk off it is there to stop the contacts corroding.

yea.. thats kind of what I figured...although initially I thought it was a form of corrosion.

it seems all relays etc are off to the side of the bike... what will I find under the tank near the seat as far as electrical stuff?

there are some sensors and wiring but also a plastic air box that may be getting hot from heat from the motor and may smell a bit.

It wasn't a burning smell, but I did find a small bird lodged in the horn area of the front end. It really smelled bad. 8)

I got the same thing. It's coming from the rubber boot over the oil sensor ( I think...) melting when the engine is hot.

From the right side right under the fuel tank behind the engine, one black wire goes to it.
