I beleive this to be the abrasion ring from the diagram on bikebandit. Anybody know for sure and why this may have fallen out. I'm looking for some info as I'm new and have not taken forks apart before and don't know what to do to fix this.

Looks like it just bushing to keep things lined up and not rubbing each other. Press it back up inside. If it stays you are golden. If not, maybe help it with a little RTV. I wouldn't take things apart for that to get replaced. Make it stay up there!

Maybe it's a dust seal? Thanks for your reply and I'm not too woried about it but I'm wondering how it would stay in place up there...Anybody else?

Push it back up with a plastic object then clean the forks. clean forks are happy forks yours are not as bits are trying to run away

If you do use silicone, DON'T get it on the fork slider or you will be learning all about how forks come apart
