The little bolt (domenut locking or whatever its name is) that connects the shifter arm to the shifter linkage has some play in it. It's probably about 1/16" to not quite 1/8" and I am wondering if it's normal. Is it suppose to be tight or is the play normal?
Mine has stock chrome domed nut, that nut has been known to fall off so may have been replaced.
As above tighten it up it should not be loose, unless you want it to fall off too (it is ugly)

I tried but couldn't since there is no resistance. When I turn the nut the threaded part turns with it inside the ball joint assembly. I don't see anything that I can put a little wrench on so I can tighten the locking nut. And according to the diagram is a LH thread. I am going to go to the dealership tomorrow to see what little parts they have in stock, if any...
Maybe it sounded like I was, but I wouldn't dare. Knowledge is knowledge, and if I had the Rocket for a number of years then I would probably have a reason to think I knew a lot, but I don't. Have had the bike for exactly one week!
Actually I would like to let everybody that replied to my posts know how much I appreciate their input, and that I am extremely grateful for all of the advice received.
That nut is supposed to be a domed nut and mine is definitely not.
Thanks a lot again!
Tomcat, I can't see anything on the ball joint assy that I can put a wrench on so I can tighten or loosen the nut. The threaded piece that comes out of the ball joint turns with the nut.
Is there supposed to be any play at all between the ball joint and the actual shifter?
Any ideas?
ok Calboy there should be some little flats for a spanner on the base of the ball you will need to gently push aside the foam grease retainer assumming they are still there and they are on the ball side of shifter out of view in your picture
