I hear a lot of people talking about how removing them got a great throttle response. I am not as mechanically inclined as some of our member. My daddy never taught me anything. What is the process of removing these? Can someone explain how?

- Lift the tank and prop it up using the prop rod.

- Remove the plastic plenum section of the air box that connects to the throttle bodies
There will be three clamps (one on each throttle body) and two clamps in the "under
tank area that connect this plastic plenum to the rest of the air box. The air temp
sensor is also in this piece and should just pull out to be set aside.
- Once the plastic plenum is removed you should see the secondary butterflies (held on
with 2 screws each.
- BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN REMOVING THESE SCREWS. IF YOU DROP ONE INSIDE
THE THROTTLE BODY, YOU WILL BE IN FOR A LOT MORE WORK TO GET THAT
SCREW OUT.
- Once all the butterflies are removed, reverse the procedure above. The plastic
plenum is a PAIN to get back in, but it can be done after a few curse words and
some alcoholic beverage of your choice!.. lol
- Once all is back together, it might be good to the "12 min tune" to reset the adaptives
in the ECU, but it should run just fine and you should have a little bit quicker throttle
response.

and if you have gone through all that removal excersize, why not instal three K&N filters of your choice and remove the rest of the restrictive duct from underseat and unleash the beast. next thing you know you will want a better exhaust system and tunecu or Tuneboy and Gipro, etc.:D:D:D

To remove some of the worry about dropping those screws, you can use a couple of pieces of duct tape to tape the secondaries closed. That way if you happen to drop one of the screws it won't go anywhere. Once the screws are safely removed and set aside just pull the tape and secondaries out. Wipe clean to remove any possible tape residue.

It's in German but has English sub titles and is very easy to follow ‪Triumph Rocket III Drosselklappen Secondaries‬‏ - YouTube , although TxR's post is spot on.

I completely endorse the suggestion to go with triple filters at the same time; if not for the freer breathing, for your sanity. Removing secondaries is quite easy but getting the air box plenum back on took ages and is a complete PITA. Do both at once and you'll have the job done quickly and not spend an hour or so wishing you'd never started.

was quietly listening to the thread and decided to remove secondaries. that is a remarkable improvement for throttle response and the refitting of the air duct is a royal pita and randomly caused a 3hr ride through some serious twisties. All is well now and the mind is clear again, so i was wondering if anyone has found the K&N's to be worthwhile as i have always thought the K&N's were tooo porous for good air filtration. That may be incorrect but that has been my experience in the past with other applications. I am open to any observations/opinions.

Canberra, that video was awesome! Thank you! And I see what you mean about the pita. I will wait a bit until I can afford the triples project before I start with the secondaries now :)

Does the bike need a new tune if you replace the filters and remove the secondaries ? I ask because this would require a trip to the dealer, at least for me @ $ 99.99 p/h, I have tuneboy but not confident enough to use it, there isn't anyone in this neck of the woods that I know off that has it either  heck I can't even acess tuneecu:mad:
