I had the Rocket in the garage up on my lift all day Saturday.

I pulled both wheels to service, repair and replace.

Serviced the wheel and final drive cush drive splines and drive shaft splines with Moly. All looked good.

Repaired the leaking front left fork seal by replacing both sides fork oil seal and dust seal. Changed the fork oil to 7 weight too. I was surprised how clean the old fork oil was. That was the original fill from new. It was still clear. While I was in there I installed the new front fork progressive rate performance springs I got a few years ago from Patriot Suspension for their $20 introduction special.

Replaced the back tire with a new Avon Cobra.

Took her out for a 60 mile test ride and scuff in the new tire last night. Yes I do like the new fork springs and fork oil set up. What a difference.

Awesome!
Just did nearly the same thing on mine. The Progressive front springs are great so far.
Plus me and my friends were shocked at how clean the fork fluid was!
All I could think of is it ain't fish oil like in all the Jap bikes I have owned.

What type of lift do you guys have. I am thinking of getting one and am curious as to brand /type give the best stability.

thanks
Dan

I would expect the old fork oil to be clean. I don't think I've ever seen used fork oil come out dirty. If the oil was dirty I would be thinking something must be wearing badly to contaminate the oil.

You have likely never owned a Jap bike then.
I have had many and one of the first orders of business id to replace the fish oil.
Usually do it within the first 5000 miles and it is ALWAYS filthy dirty on all the liter bikes I have had - Kaw, Suzy, Yammy.

Like 1olbull says; all my Jap bikes have also had thick nasty silver/gray sludgy fish oil come out when I have changed fork oil or changed the fork seals. I have owned over 35 bikes. Hmmm ... come to think of it, only 3 of them have been European. All 3 those were/are triumphs. This is the first time I have changed the fork oil in any of the Triumphs. I'll be doing the T-Bird Sport when I get back from Montrose. I'll let you know how that fork oil looks.
