Monday 9th
Coudoux to Antibes via aix en provence, Marseille, cassis, Toulon, saint maxime , l’esterel mandelieu cannes and destination

After spending much time in the swimming pool at my buddy’s house in coudoux where the temp never drops below 28 degres centigrade all summer ( tall tales I am sure) I had to come back to Antibes for some planned runs in the mountains with some good friends.

Today after the usual French breakfast coffee that taste like rocket fuel with enough caffeine to wake up the dead and baguette I headed to Aix that old roman city 18 miles north of coudoux which in turn is really a small bedroom community near the marseille aiport.
In aix I picked up my new mastercard and some cash got to spend to enjoy the rides .
I left for Marseille and I made the foolish decision once there to ride down the famous avenue leading to the old harbour . the traffic was unreal with scooters slaloming between cars like slalom skiers between poles . I split lane to move a bit but these scooters are something else . on the edge of the water fishermens are still selling their catch of the day this has been a tradition for hundreds of years which is recent considering the town was founded by Greek mariners 600years B.C. check the bronze plaque In the concreted sidewalk floor.
I then headed out to cassis another very small harbour 30 miles east famous for the “calanques” known as the calanques of cassis I will not expand you guys can do the research on this anyway the tourist crowd was again unreal I met a HD rider on a CVO and we had a drink and a chat we even found some original fishing boats called “pointu” in the water. around three I said good bye and went to Toulon where the local bike shop had a sale and I had a new credit card a deadly combo. We will skip over the shopping !!!! and I went for the ride home , seeing two beautiful CVO harley at the gas station I stopped for fuel, then back on the road . on the toll road a porsche foolishly passed me while I was taking a picture with my left hand trying to show the speed 100MPH and 3500 RPM etc .so the game was on ,I sneaked up to him and when he kind of slowed in his lane I came along side his pax side doing about 4000 rpm in fifth then I whacked the throttle open I truly I left him there standing yet he was at around 100MPH but hey this R3 just accelerate from 110 MPH to 150 MPH in a real hurry, scared me too! Holy ****!
Remind me not to do this too often I cannot believe the grunt and power left in this engine already pushing100MPH,I never experienced such a phenomenal acceleration from100 to 150.
porsche’s owner beware of the triumph R3. you are no match.

I will be off the thread a few days .

I had to put on a new front tire today the metz was showing the tread mark ,so I called triumph in nice and two hours later I rolld out with a new Avon all consiered banced mounted 250 dollars not to bad the mils on the front 11 000 before the change
I did not noticed a big difference wth the metz unlike the rear where the rear did make a difference.
was going to cinq terre tomorrow but there is not a bed anywhere near the place ..will see

thursday 12th antibes- coreglia 160 miles and back to antibes

my adopted daughter suggested we visit the world renowned cinq terre area in liguria italy just 150 miles east of the french border so the weather being perfect we decided to ride the toll road all the way and come back on sunday.
we booked a B&B in coreglia just inland fom the cinq terre . for one night and we would find another place the next day. the geography around this liguria area is significant in so far as the mountains are actually large ridge falling in the sea all the way to la spezia from monaco. therefore the tollway is unique and the most expensive piece of highway in the world. there is not a single mile of flat land anywhere from Monaco to la spezia
you ride from tunnel to bridge to tunnel to bridge and the bridges are spanning some vertiginous heights . the tallest supporting pile along the route is 1400 feet tall most being 600 feet so the side winds are a concern for tall trailers and motorcycles.we could not stop fo pictues anywhee on it but if you google autostrada dei fiori you will see what I mean.
after missing the exit at portofino we peeled off at chiavarri and backtrackted to coreglia via a a mountain road only fit for donkeys, single lane hairpins and italian drivers . some are rather nuts , since they believe the solid line in the middle is for driving two wheels on each side.

the B&B owner in Coreglia showed us a nice place to visit called stresi di levante right on the sea and apparently as nice as portofino plus we would not need to take the donkey road, so we left mid afternoon fo stresi di levante .
we came back around midnight and had to scale the gate to get to our rooms .the ownerr fogot to give us keys to the gate . the next day we travelled to camoglie and booked passage to portofino by boat
and what a place it is ..look at the pictures even the monastery half way there held a magical feeling . this portofino harbour was very poor for a long time, no road was built
and some of the locals who decided to start faming , had to bring dirt by packing it to use on the restanques they also built .talk about perseverance .
we finished the evening back in camoglie from 6 PM on the harbour flea market till midnight.
the next day the floodgates of the mountain sky came down on us as we prepared to return to nice, had my rain gear ready but my daughter well............. we turned her into miss garbage bag ,all wrapped with tape.
I do not think the Italian police has eve seen such a get up but it did the job. we managed to make it back to nice half on the scenic coastal road till savona and the last half in downpour on the tollway where we had to split lanes for miles due to a computer failure at the tollgates causing backup lines of miles and miles of bumper to bumper cars stopped for hours

Whats the go putting a bike as cargo on a air plane, is it safe from getting damaged?

seriously !! ............
the bike fits the standard container and it is strapped down on its side stand should you feel queasy you can provide some blankets for covering the area where straps are touching paint.
remember though you need dangerous goods invoice for shipping on top of regular invoice (should you decide to come and ride in paradise)

I had no damage upon arrival in frankfurt and no problems clearing customs so get here !!

as far as taking pictures with left hand I had the camera in left side pocket of pants and often enough I hold only to the right grip while riding so it did not seems out of sort for me on the straight. the R3 is well behaved at speed which impart some sense of security as well .but I am going to try a new procedure using my mouth only(nice try saboteur which by the way is french for ...?.. do you know.)

the next trip is a few days away as I have first to go the clinic for some tests one involves anesthetic I still have to go to gruyeres in switzerland from nice via col de la cayolle ,chamonix ,and montreux , to poke some holes in the cheese , and ride the saint gothard pass

and I wish to again state that the avon tires are to me a better tires for flicking the beast into left right left which we have everywhere in europe and this is where this bike shines.

I do now, lol.
1 saboteur, one who commits sabotage
2 bungler, which probably indicates sabotaging oneself

Did I say I was jealous of your trip?

Eat some good cheese for me.
