monday 26th
left the charming lady at la madrague around 7 am and rode to Marseille to pick up a new helmet then on to aix en provence for banking business ( draw more cash from the ATM what else) then toll road to nimes then into the mountains of the cevennes I must have turned 200 times to the left and 200 time to the right during the 300 miles I rode today , my tires are well worn on the sides from all these near peg scrapping exercises. I will put the picture in the eurotrip album seems simpler to load than attached to this post
I include a picture of a roundabout because there are no more country road crossing in france these roundabout are found EVERYWHERE sometime every half a mile , at least it has cut dramatically the accident rate but geez!! round and round .

so another day of absolute marvel scenery different than the ones found in the alps these mountains here are much older but the roads are carved for most part in very old granit. it also is the beginning of castle country and you find them around the bends on hilltop quite often. I am going o try the google road itinerary picture to post but just in case here is the routing I did today
la madrague toll way to marseille highway to aix en provence , toll way to nimes hit the mountains starting in sommieres ,ouissac, ganges,le vigan mount aigoual, meyruels,
where I stopped for lunch ( on a narrow passerelle used as terrasse for the restaurant)
le rozier (breathtaking scenery there ) and to finish a 10 miles stretch of road with absolute perfect left right left flip flop open bends with view of traffic all the time . I mention that because remember some of these roads are only as wide as a single lane back home and they have trucks like 18 wheelers on them and seeing one popping out of a bend just inches away from my lef footpeg is something rather chilling but they sure know about bikes and they move out of the way whenever possible. anyway I stopped in Rodez for the night and when my mind is back to normal pedestrian mode ,anything I forgot to write will come back and I will post it .
tomorrow I go rodez, villefranche de rouergue, villefranche du perigord ,and stop in monpazier where the **** will hit the fan the next day between me and my mother in law the old fart.
check the euro trip for more pictures.

itinerary tuesday august 27th Rodez à Monpazier - Google Maps
from rodez to monpazier in dordogne france

Mutt

is this journal so far as you expected!! I am not a good writer nor a computer expert, and sometime on the road there are great pictures to shoot, but I cannot turn around on the road every time I see a great shot I also tried to look for a helmet mounted videocam again cost and practicability were a factor in forgetting that idea yet it would have been the best way to show the great diversity and scenery I experience ever days..

this is a great story and it keeps getting better.
pleased to know that you met my friend Nicke from Sweden as well.
is it true that he got a tank helmet from you?

leif

Yes I met Nicke in Bad bruckenau and he invited me to the winyard on balaton lake I was looking forward to it till I got a call from a family member wtith a problem so I cut short my stay in germany and rode direct to france fortunately a subsequent phone call reassured me somewhat and the urgency seemed less drastic so I turned left and rode through the dolomites before getting to the original track but I missed the balaton lake party
when we split from bad bruckenau I gave Nicke my leather tank helmet indeed to thank him for the invite in hungary and to leave a good lasting impression I am sure he will wear it whenever he goes to a bike party,
I am currently in dordogne france for another 48hours dealing with an old hag and I have no acess to a decent computer so I cannot post the few pictures I HAVE TAKEN ON THIS LEG, I also have to type on a french keyboard and it is a pain in the a;;;;
I also was stopped by the french police and it is so ridiculous I have to mention the details
it happened at a T intersection with a stopsign I am behind a car we both stop at the sign then the car peels off to the righ I move closer to the intersection as a car pulling a trailer from the road on right turn left onto my road the therefore cutting all traffic from the left so I turn right and procedd cops 20 meters away stop me course I play dumb and they tell me I did not put my foot down at the stop I replied I had the tip of my shoe on the ground they reply I must also have the heel on the ground to be considered stopped , to which I said go ahead and write the ticket they mumbled something and let me go , they figured I would have no problem throwing away a french ticket, talk about stupidity,,,

by saturday I will hit the road and cross into Spain on my way to Zazuar a small village near Aranda del duero
there you have the latest news till next time
