For ***s sake its only a couple of days isn't it, just get on the ***er and ride until you're so tired that you'll sleep on a park bench in the rain and not feel a thing.
Turn your jocks inside out after a couple of days and where an extra shirt under your jacket.
Take as much money as you can to pay for piss, accommodation and fines.
At least that's the way I used to go to the Castrol 6hr and Bathurst weekends back when.

Just sayin ;)

You know the older I get the tougher I used to be,my first trip to Bathurst was 49 years ago, and yes we used to rough it then plus every second weekend we were away on the bikes, sleeping in bus sheds, no change of clothes smelling like a billy goat:eek:, and all that stuff great when you are a young bloke, but hard lessons learnt from waiting for someone to bring a trailer to get the bike home because we didn't carry any tools or tyre repair gear are never forgotten. what "we used to do" then and in the cold reality of today is a lot different these old bones need a bit of comfort now, but at least I am still riding, a lot of my old mates have passed or into the pipe and slippers caper, the trip to RDU is only a hop skip and a jump away about 1000klms in two days, a snack I will probably ride home in one day, in 1985 I rode to Perth by myself on a brand new Harley 4100Klms one way
in 5 days and 7 days coming back sleeping rough, but that was then .

While doing long trips non stop after 12hours or so I used to get rather fatigued .the rocket was an ideal.sleeping companion as I have a fuel tank cover .I would simply pull of the road ,put the stand down and place head in the helmet onto the tank and usually woke 5 or 10 minutes later .On the last long ride I was doing this every 40 kilometers or so for the last 300 km,s ..Although the nanna naps were good I think in hind sight better organization of the trip would have been a better alternative

I understand the sentiments and appreciate that age is creeping up on all of us so that the older we get the tougher we were.
I also agree to be prepared is a good thing, even though the only time I've spent on the side of the road was to help mates with unplanned dismounts, this might be because I've never owned a Harley.
Like most I've spent a bit of time make it work with what's on hand, usually a drop of petrol and someone game enough to throw it in the fire. So I can understand why being prepared is a good thing but every time I crank into a corner at speed and feel the power that launches me past lesser bikes I know that on the outside I'm on the wrong side of 50 but at heart I'm just a crazy (or is that cranky) bastard.

I like to be prepared but I also like to travel light and travel fast.

Ortlieb dry-bags (lot better than bin liners ) ... ROK Straps (lot better than occy straps or ratchet straps). Neither are expensive and worth their weight in gold .. trust me

I always pack some pain killers as well. Never know when you get a headache and doing k's with a sore head aint fun.

A can of coke and a couple of pies fixes any headaches I have, I only get the rare headache if I have been on the grog big time, 15 schooners or so and a few bourbon chasers any less and I am fine , :whitstling:no brain no pain!

Lucky Bugger..

Marty and I have had a slight change in travel plans, we will be leaving Hervey Bay a day earlier as we will be spending 2 nights in Albury, at this stage the only thing that can stuff our trip up is my recovery from surgery I had on Tuesday, so far so good. So we will be at the motel to greet the others as they arrive there, I might even have the kettle on for you all lol.

I won't be coming this year but you guys will have a great time .I'm pretty sure I took my bike out for my last ride today .unfortunately I have some serious health issues and after another situation occurred out there today all I wanted to do was get the bike home .it is home and I am in one piece.I have pushed the boundaries as far as I am game.I now have to think of my family and not myself .enjoy your selves at the RDU and ride safe guys.

Pete i dont know what to say to you brother except i have alot of respect for you and i wish you well . Sorry u can no longer enjoy riding the beast
