R3R - stalling issue?

Update...got the bike back today. The tech was investigating the wiring under the right side cover. If you look there you will see 2 plug ins that have a black boot covering them. Under the boot nearest the tank there is a wire that feeds the crank position sensor. That one wire was loose. With the bike idling, he pushed lightly on that particular wire and the bike stalled.

So he used a zip tie and secured that particular wire to the one next to it to keep it from slipping out. He also used some adhesive to reinforce it further. I noticed when I replaced the right side cover, that it presses against that particular plug probably putting more stress on an already short wire. Just my thoughts.

I had arrived at the dealership just as he finished the repair. I rode it the 46 miles home. Stopped at my Mom's house for a half hour then rode home. Surprisingly, it stalled one time. Finished the ride home without incident. Later, I went to gas up and it ran perfect.

I phoned the dealership and told them about the one stall. The plan is if it happens once more they are going to replace the entire wire harness.

BTW, on my way home I was cruising along at 60 mph. I twisted the throttle and the bike blasted forward. I have never experienced such power in a bike. I swore I heard mission control say "and lift off of the R3R..." Absolutely insane acceleration (love it). And my bike is all stock. I can't imagine if I switched to K&N's, exhaust and chipped it.

Seeing that it stalled once more on the way home proves that they didn't really " fix " it. I'm afraid that you are going to have to insist that they change the wiring harness other wise this will probably turn into a constant headache for you.

Call them back and tell them to order the parts to fix it and you'll bring the bike back once they come in.

You're right, RKTNMYPKT. I am sorta thinking when the next stall will be. I'm gonna ride it up to that point and then make the call. I rode twice this afternoon after it stalled and its been perfect. But I totally know what you're saying.

Thanks for the nudge RKTNMYPKT - I've just been swamped since I got back from England.

OK, so I have had my girl out for a few rides and the TPS reset definitely did not fix the issue. I have been out on both hot days and cool(er), and I seem to get the same intermittent stall . The one saving grace is that it only seems to hit on a downshift, so it doesn't seem to be a safety issue (at the moment).

I will have to take a few and see about the potential harness issue. It would make sense that it is electrically based since it is so maddeningly intermittent.

Sorry to hear your still having troubles..... It's gotta be frustrating!

I'm picking mine up tomorrow, it's supposed to be 100 degrees plus, with a two hr ride home, ( I may get lost ) I'll let you know if I have any issues...

Rocketmouse, you might possibly be experiencing the same issue I did. A loose wire that feeds the timing. I can't be 100% sure mine is fixed. I rode it on 3 seperate occasions since the last stall and it hasn't stalled yet which is the most since the stall issue began. I hope you find the issue, but I would start with that particular wire.

Congrats, RKTNMYPKT...post a pic or two of your Rocket.

I don't know if my experience was the same as yours or not. When my roadster was new and stock if I blipped the trottle on the down shift it would cough back through the intake and stall sometimes. Took it back to dealer and was told they all do that. A PCV and dyno tune fixed it. I am told know you don't need the PCV that some dyno blokes can tune with Triumph Ecu.

Hey, Bruce aussie, I think my issue is a bit different from yours. Either way, it sucks having anything go wrong with our bikes. Mine is running trouble free now. Hope it stays this way.
