the spring/judder is there to elimitate the judder/clutch chatter. the clearance in the clutch pac is so that the clutches will have clearance so that the clutches will not have friction while not engaged also to hold down on heat.
a general rule is to have .010 per clutch of clearance depending upon what purpose the clutches are used for.
the clutch chatter useually is caused by incorrect oil modifers verses the type of friction material on the clutches verses the spring/hydraulic pressures
now if you used friction modifiers to correct the chater then you also affect the holding power of the clutches so it is a fine ballance.
