For cold weather below 30 degree's i like these. with the batteries. beyond 30% no battery needed.Summer just a lite pair of riding gloves with fingers.
Currently I use my Knox Zero 2 when I know it's going to be bitter cold out, they are waterproof in a different way, no liner, the gloves have a bonded layer internally that keeps you 100% dry and warm:
and Icon Overlord for summer and track duty:
I'll buy these 2 in 1 Helds for 3 season street work, retire the Icons to race only duty, and keep the Knox for deep of winter work, they're stupid good (and expensive). Think its a good set of gear as they're all amazing protection level gloves and offer temperature coverage from low teens to 100+ Fahrenheit with the bulk of it being the 2 in 1s.
Also the obligatorily shorty cuffs and puffy winter cheapies as back ups or when its in the 40s.
Heads up, this guy had some really good feedback at the end of his article regarding wear on hard parts, if you've got metal grips these may not be appropriate for you:
My 0,02. Gloves are immensely personal. Apart from all the tech, safety etc - they have to fit. And well.
Like many I search for the perfect glove and for high summer and mid season now have them. Neither is waterproof - but I run with Barkbuster BBZ which keep 95% of any water well away. The Gloves that fit me best (so far?) are made by the Swedish company Halvarsson. I have some Leather/Mesh but 100% aramid lined and some leather (also CE certified) 100% aramid lined. Sadly the supplier here has sort of closed his doors (to reason if not completely) . He keeps almost nothing in stock - so you cannot go for a browse.
I have tried overmitts/gloves and simply cannot get on with them. I find usually one glove moves inside the other and I don't like the way that feels.
My current winter gloves are Triumph ones. I was in severe need when I took the R3 for it's 1st service - dealer gave me a 50% discount out of pity. Was warm and sunny at home - Sub-zero and iced over in Segovia. But imo the quality is VERY poor. Warm? yes. Dry? yes. Safe? - I seriously doubt it - some of the stitching went very fast in a very wet ride.
There really is so much choice though. I cannot keep up. I keep finding new (to me) brands. Anybody use Rev!it stuff ? or Macna?. Both Dutch - known for wet and cold.
Not positive on CE2, I bought them before CE2 gear was attainable for reasonable prices, but tbh, our local drag strip doesn’t know any better.
I may end up wearing the Helds at the track, depending on tactile feel from them, they’re almost certainly more durable then the Icons.
EDIT: Now I remember why I bought the Overlords in particular, the Kangaroo palm with minimal textile anywhere to be found, have full outside the palm wrapping leather, and hard ulna protection. All the things I wanted. At the time the only alternatives with equal features were $300+.
Question on your glove sizing. Getting mail order stuff properly fit can be a royal pain. Do you think the gloves are the same size as your other gloves?
That was Tuesday, now Friday I received the gloves -- and that was after an exception for weather in the northeast . . . "World Saver UPS" . . . amazing.
I ordered from that link above, and the gloves shipped from Spain.
Size 8 is what I normally wear -- these were cozy when I first put them on -- instructions say "fit tightly" and "still have feeling" -- interesting.
I'm hoping these break in a little -- don't think I'm ready to return them for the next size up.
I'm thinking the "2-in-1" thing might be a bit of a gimmick -- they certainly are split -- and well done too - both sides fit as if they were the only one.
