points of contact - where to grab to pick it up?

hey guys,

embarrassing...

first time ever with any bike, last night i dropped mine trying to make a u-turn in too tight a space at too low of speed. lesson learned! thankfully! i have engine bars on it and there was so little of damage to the bars you have to look hard to find it anyways, there was a guy walking on the sidewalk who helped me pick it up.

i know to use the "turn your back on it" lift method, but my question is...

where do i grab a hold of the bike to do the lift?

in case i go stupid and i drop it again, contact points of where to grab on the right side of the bike and where on the left side of the bike? would be greatly appreciated!

Todd, I grab the bars in one hand turning them all the way to the stop and the bar in front to the pannier in the back. I have also used the passenger foot rest as a hard point but be careful as it can move on you.
 
Turn the bars to the direction it fell and facing away from it and bending at the knees, grab a bar and the seat...have a stout boy on the other side to pull. On count of three, give a heave!

by bars i think you are saying the handle bars, right? and when you say all the way to stop, i think you are saying to the side that the bike is laying on, right?

one other question... i dropped her on the right side on the bike (relative to sitting on it, making a typical u-turn as on the road). while laying down she started dripping a liquid. the longer she was down the more liquid dripped. being that i was blocking traffic, i did not take the time to wipe my fingers across it and smell to see if it was gas or oil, but gas and oil look shiny and it didn't look like that. i'm guessing it was coolant probably coming from the ???

once picked up, she has ridden fine
 
You might dribble both gas and water if you leave it laying. Maybe not oil unless the tank lid is loose.
 
I meant grabbed the grip on the handle bar.

My best guess would be fuel and probably not oil. It could be coolant but I would think so on the right side.
 
i don't think gas. afterwards i did stop to see if there was dribbling out of any hoses or the , and i saw no signs of that, whatever it was i'm guessing evaporated from the engine heat. i would think that if it was gas it would catch fire, idk?

Not necessarily. Gas lights readily if you put flame to it. Even static electricity. But it's the vapor that ignites, and a slow dribble will just evaporate usually. Of course one doesn't temp fate.
