output shaft bearing problem

update 2

Just wanted to update you all on my situation. I called the shop yesterday and they told me that they pulled the oil pan and found much funk in the sump pump. They said that Triumph is auto shipping (whatever that means) the upgrade parts to them and they should have the parts in a couple days. With any luck I may have a new transmission by the end of next week. But I won't hold my breath. As for the shops expertise at this repair, they have only done this one other time. Wish me luck.

Getting Upgrade Kit

Dave:

It sounds like you may be getting the upgrade kit that would include replacing other suspect parts as well, that's a good thing! I would recommend that you obtain a completion date for the repair and keep on top of it so that your not put on the back burner. We are in the riding season (and the shops are getting busy). Best of luck. Keep us posted.

You have my sympathy.....oops I mean my good hopes.

I would have called Baxters and taken it there. I know they have done at least 10, maybe more. Pig and I are 2 for sure. You are so much closer than I was.

I wish you luck.

Now, when they pulled my sump pan, there wasn't anything on it and there was nothing in the fliter either...but Gus 'felt' what I felt and that was enough to take it apart. There was minimal galling on the outer race of the TDU bearing, enough to feel and enough to make it get worse and enough to perform all the upgrades.

I liked the idea that Baxters had done multiple units before mine and knew the tricks and fixes to get her right...the first time. The bike runs and shifts better than it ever did. That's all you could ask in my opinion.

I agree with you Flip, but Baxters was just too far away for me to go at this time. I am just hoping for the best. Wish me luck.

I'll keep my fingers crossed then. You should have piped up earlier. I'd have come out and we could have laoded the beast on my trailer and I would have taken it our to Marne for you. I'm always looking for excuses to visit with Randy & Company. Besides, I get to stop at the local Cum & Go.:D

final update

For those of you who care, I finally got my Rocket back from the shop. I took it in on May 12th and just got it back today. It has a new 2009 transmission in it and Triumph paid for it all. I have put 120 miles on it today and it runs and shifts great. There is no more grinding into 2nd gear and it shift smoothly into every gear. There is a very decisive "clunk when you change gears and I believe it is louder than before. The bike is running great and I am pleased with the repairs. I just wish it wouldn't have taken so long.
See ya
Dave

Dave,
I'm glad you're back on the road.
Shouldn't give you any more problems,
I know mine hasn't and the dealer that done mine had only done one before me too.
So ride on..
