Once It's Fixed, Then What??

keeper

I crashed mine the christmas before last in a low speed collision
i ran up the back of a car but the impact with the car was minimal most of the damage was when it hit the ground
bars tank pegs 1 pipe indicators ect all bolt on stuff and there was no structural damage at all.
I kept my beast and you could never tell it was dropped because all the parts wher switched out for new ones.
Ive never had a problem with the beast and its still definatly my pride and joy
 I vote Keeper

+1 on keeping it insurance totaled my 06 classic wish i could have kept it

Oh definitely keep it. Frame and engine are OK and you got new parts to replace the dinged stuff. No big deal, have the dealer check your valves (or whatever else you would like done) while he is playing with the bike (on the insurance company's nickel of course!) :D

You might also consider trying to hang onto certain damaged parts that could come in handy later on. Fastners and little things like that are always in demand at some point for whatever reason. :D

Unlike cars if the title doesn't end up as 'salvage' the bike is expected to have some repairs and therefore the value isn't hurt. There isn't a 'Car Fax' to follow your motorcycle and if the bike isn't 'totaled' then it isn't salvage so you can sell it with full disclosure or not. If it's fixed then it's going to be worth the same as any 07 (mileage means zippo on bikes). Depreciation occurs on motorcycles due to age so if you added $10,000 of bling the bike is worth the value of the stock plus maybe 10% of the bling value. So if the average 07 Rocket is selling for $8000 (as an example) and you added all that bling it ups the value to $9000. Strip all the stuff off sell it for $3000 and the bike goes for $8000 you make more money parting the custom bits.

Whether you keep the bike or not is personal preference. The legal end is not your problem.;)

Can't see why you wouldn't keep it. Afterall, it will be perfect after being fixed. Unless you bought brand new to replace it you might be buying something that has had similar work anyway. Keep it and ride it.

Thanks everyone, the general consensus is to keep it and since all the repairs are "bolt-on" I agree. The insurance was settled yesterday and the FINAL final tally ended up at $6600. I'm going to selectively not do a couple of things and maybe put the money in the bank for RAA 7 :D
