Pal of mine has an 06 Rocket 20k on it and the gearbox has started to play up, it is difficult to find a gear (any gear) and when the clutch is released there's an almighty banging and grindin.
Is it dead in the water?
A dealer repair is out of the question financially at the moment?
Any advice much appreciated

sounds like it..a tear down is at least in order..maybe an independent instead of a dealer?..or lots of research and do it himself if he's mechanically inclined.

Same as mine The dealer wants an arm, leg, kidney and testicle Letters and phone calls to Triumph didn't help The response to the question "How long should a gearbox last?" was "How long is a piece of string"

First thing to check in my opinion would be is the clutch adjusted correctly. if it does not pull open enough the gears to not shift as cleanly as they should which could mean they are no going in completly and when you let off the clutch lever they could be slaming in. the free play is 2 to 3 mm try closer to 2 mm to insure a good pull and see if it shifts any better. Then we can go from there. Not sure what the PM Les sent you contains but he knows his stuff so I advise trying what ever he states.
