It depends on what mission statement you intend, long haul all day or just blasting around for some fun. The motor will last a quarter million miles, so age and mileage on the motor (properly serviced) won't affect the reliability. You might be comfier on a GT since the pegs can be adjusted for leg length (not so on the R). Also, the GT comes with heated grips. Once you have the suspension dialed in the bike is fun, nimble, and fast. Just don't let your right wrist write checks your body has to cash.

There is going to be little real difference between years other than cosmetics, so I'd focus mostly on low miles. Fun fact is that most for sale will have very low miles, as people think they want a bike like this and then find that it's too much for them.

I have a red 2020 R3- the fastest color .

I seen someone traded in an R version with 600km on it, mine and the salesman's guess was that they made it through the break in period, got the service done, took it out and opened it up and scared the crap out of themselves, so immediately traded it in on a Harley. i'm over 60,000km on my 2020 GT and it has been flawless, the only issue I ran into was the battery in the FOB died on me once, other then that, got rid of the speed limiter and put in the new tune and it's been happy trails
