New to the Rocket family

Hi, I'm trading in my bobber to get a 2020 Rocket R3!
I feel some melancholy b/c the Bobber did nothing wrong except perhaps I should have upgraded the suspension.
One day I may go back to it...

As to the Rocket R3, the dealer advised me to use to premium octane fuel.
I like my dealer but they also advised me to use premium in my Bobber and it started shutting off randomly while idling at stop lights till I went back to 87.
I had always heard that going to a higher octane may be unnecessary but didn't realize it could cause problems.
So w/ this 2020 R3, which fuel should I try? This is in California btw if it makes a difference in terms of additive or measurements.

I think @Penner said you didn't need premium fuel with his tune. So, I would assume from that, that you wouldn't need it stock either. I have a BT moto tune, and I'm not sure if there is a timing advance or not with it. I've been using premium. Havent had any problems with it stalling or anything.

Gidday mate, welcome aboard! We use 95 (RON) in NZ, which is equivalent your 91 AKI, so Premium gas. The owners manual (NZ edition) also says to use 95 RON fuel.

Greetings from sunny North Texas. Using premium is only if you want cleaner fuel in the system, the engine doesn't need it. I also have a Bobber but I upgraded the whole suspension, front and rear just to ride it without detonating spinal disks. Now it's a real joy for blasting about town. It has the 9L tank so not too far between gas stops. Other than that, it's a hoot to ride. The Rocket has a lot more of everything so enjoy your new wheels.
