New tire time

Well I think I got all the miles I could out of the stock metzelers. Planned on replacing them this summer, but life happened. Rear tire was flat today when I went to ride it. Just put in my order with Rocky Mountain atv for some cobra chromes, hopefully I can get them on in time to enjoy this beautiful fall weather.
 
I wish I could get 6400 miles on a rear anything on the R3.
 
Before I had my pillion, I would have kept riding that tire a while longer. Back then, whenever I saw the actual cords I knew it was the end of that tire's useful service life...
 
The cords appeared very suddenly on my original Metzeler.
It was very disconcerting to see them after a long day's ride.
Mine looked a lot like the rear in the pic, above before the ride.

I was shocked to see a worn tire before a ride and then a dangerous tire at the end if the day. That last rubber goes away in just a few miles.
