New Texas Law for dealers.

Has anyone heard about the new Texas law regulating dealerships selling new vehicles. According to a salesman here at British USA (not sure of start date) but a dealership can not sell two or more name brands in the same location or under same tax I.D.#. British had to lease the building next door to them and separate the Triumph’s from the BMW’s.

Do you know what the thinking is behind that? I guess I don't understand what benefit that would be to anyone and even more importantly in my mind, how that is any business of the governments.

My dealer in KC is being mandated by BMW to put their product line in a different showroom from Triumph. So they are having to add on to the building. I wonder if the same thing is happening there?

Not sure Piggr he made it sound like all dealers car and motorcycles. There might be two reasons behind it,
1) give smaller one manufacture dealers a more level playing field
2) and more likely the real reason, more take I.D's more money for our greedy Government.
But who knows I'm just guessing here.

Truimph has given a 2 year exclusion to our new dealer in town, at which time he has to move his Victory (or Triumph) line of bikes to a seperate show room in another building. It seems that OEM's want exclusive footage for the prospective customers to be properly tenderized by sales staff before being consumed. The statement regarding exclusive sales space seems to be getting more common for whatever reason these days....but remember...if a salesmans lips are moving.......SB.

I haven't heard of that law, but I have heard of Triumph (and other dealers) wanting their own seperate designated space. Alamo BMW/Triumph was just built from the ground up and just opened this past February. I would think they would have researched this before building a completely new facility to house both brands. Both brands (as well as Kymco) are sold under one roof. However, they are seperated by a dividing wall inside and there are seperate entrances to the Triumph side and BMW side from outside the building. Once inside you can cross over to each side, but you can't see both brands at the same time.

They probably did do there home work then if you can't see more then one product. I bet if you look up there Tax I.D. you will see seperate ones for each product.

bmw dealers in NC at least require same thing- don't think there's any way they can require the dealers to establish unique tax id's however...

I spent a few years as a OEM manufactures rep. In there perspective they can spend thousands in advertising $$$ to get someone through a dealers door......... And in some cases only to have a salesperson move them into a item that is more profitable or maybe overstock or old inventory. I am savvy to most of those bait and switch pitches but lots of people can be swung in another direction by a few suttle comments. There is still no reason for the state to be involved. I would sooner think it would be a $$$$ incentive for the dealer from the manufacturer.. We will probably never know. ( I used to offer year end rebates to exclusive dealers)
