new indian scout

This is the first Indian that even whispers to me. Claiming 100HP (probably crankshaft), so figure about 78-85 at the rear wheel, but only 558# WET! That's more power than the Thunderstroke 111 puts to the rear wheel (but much less torque). This thing should be a mover if those numbers are correct. At $11K - these should FLY off the floor! Outside of the V-Rod - there won't be a Harley that can stay with it! Not bad looking either - no stupid Indian head fender ornaments, phony air cooling fins or valenced fenders. Looks like a real motorcycle! But would have been cool to see an in-line 4.

Engine reminds me of the V-Max engine.

I've been telling my friend I'm looking at Indian for a new motorcycle. I'm really not....I'm just pulling his leg but have watched each model come out. The Scout does look good out of all of them.

I noticed the two bikes posted the exhaust are different on each one.

My Dad has a 2000 millennium edition Indian Chief, really like the look of his bike. I passed on a 2000 Scout for the Rocket last October. The Scout wanted a $1,000 more than the Rocket, happy I went with the Rocket, but the Scout was a cool bike as well.

Modern water-cooled engine, high-tech aluminium construction, good looks, low price... a direct nut-kick to Harley's Sportster line.

Went out with some fellow Rocket riders a couple of weeks ago and looked at the Indians...not too bad looking but I absolutely cannot stand the flared fenders. And the first one I saw as we pulled into the dealership had the tan seat with fringes...had to be the ugliest seat I have ever seen in my life...a black seat would have been so much better but they are going for the "nostalgic" look...they can have it.

The Chief line does nothing for me - all valenced fenders and cheesy Indian head ornaments, along with weak power (but admittedly strong torque) - but I'm here to tell you that this new Scout is going to be a HUGE winner - unless it holds some inner fault not apparently evident from the photos, especially at that price point. Figure 80 - 85 rwhp in a 558# wet chassis - @$11,000? It's a can't miss proposition. It will grow the brand immeasurably - and will probably force Polaris to build a reasonably priced power cruiser for the Victory line as well . . . .

One limitation that I see is the 3.3 gal tank. Not going to go very far.

A super smart marketing strategy are the interchangable control sets. They are offering a reduced reach set and an extended reach set.

I think the acquisition of Indian by Polaris is going to prove very interesting for Victory. Hopefully it will let Indian compete with Harley and allow Victory to get away from the generic cruiser foot forward, pull back bar style. I'd be interested in a mid control, lower bar, higher seat height bike with an American made V-twin. Something like that new Indian motor in a standard type configuration.
