I would strongly suggest removing the AI units from the heads. Triumph makes an 'off road only kit' to plug the AI. The AI causes an after burn in the head pipe and turns them brown and blue.....like yours are right now and they will get worse, much worse as the miles progress.

Already did; that was part of the emissions removal I mentioned. You'll notice in that first pic - the absence of that shiny tube that served as the AI port. Sel-Motion tossed the plug kit in for free with my order. I went above and beyond what the directions said to do, though, removing both canisters under the swingarm, the AI manifold and check valve, and every hose that didn't serve as the fuel overflow, carb vents, and crankcase vent. You shoulda seen the pile of excess parts!

Kept it all, of course. Just in case. They're in a box in the loft of my shed, next to the bigger box of stock Rocket parts (mufflers, cat box, seat, rear shocks, intake crap).

That's O.K. if you live in a state that doesn't do annual checks or will never do them in the future. If you live somewhere like California and the inpectors see you've removed the smog controls they will make you replace everything, including your original exhausts.
Something to think about...

No sh_t. Did anyone here not already know that?

I'm sure everyone is sooo impressed.
I know I am ...

Yeah, in your dreams.
Maybe blown and on nitro...

Is it your mission in life to continually blow smoke up my ass (and everyone else here?).
Give it a rest dude...

.....Not a chance.

My BIL has 7 bikes including an 1800 VTX and a Rocket. He frequents this forum and we ran the bikes off side by side a couple years ago. He pulled me 6 bike lengths off the line but I closed it up and we quit at 100. Even he was very impressed...so was I.

As far as blowing smoke up your ass....
Anytime you want to drag your ass up here with your stock VTX and bring your title...if you have one, I'll be happy to relieve it from your wallet.

I built the bike myself. I didn't add parts...like you do. The difference between me and you is you are a parts replacer. I'm not. All the internal modifications to the engine and exhaust with the exception of the cam grind, was done in my machine shop, not purchased from someone else and bolted on. I took 2 years to build the bike, not a month bolting crap on.

While I'm not adverse to aftermarket parts and add on accessories (I do sell them...like you do), unlike you, I know my way around a machine shop and I have the knowledge as well as the means to extract additional performance without procuring it from someone else....which is what you do.

While I may offer acessories made by other manufacturers on my website, I too am a manufacturer of quality acessories. That sets me apart from a middelman like you....

I am a licensed mechanical engineer and have been for over 35 years. I'm not impressed with the fact you are a machinist.
You are always trying to impress everyone on this forum with how "superior" you are but in actuality you only impress yourself.
I knew you'd be trouble when I first joined this forum and you immediately PMed me trying to sell your bulbous handlebar wire guides which I think are ugly.
As to going where you are to race you?
Man, you really think I give a crap?
My stock VTX 1800 runs 12.26 in the quarter. I seriously doubt your Bonneville can come close to that but, as I said - I DON"T CARE!!!
By the way, I also manufacture several products of my own but, then again, I don't care what you think and I certainly don't need your acknowgement...
Every time I make a post you attack my credibility and every time others on this forum besides myself tell you to give it a rest.
Are you every going to wake up to the fact of how foolish you look?

I know my Bonnie, which runs really well, won't touch a VTX in 1/4, 1/2, 1/3, 660 feet, or any other distance.

Whoa... sparked a debate, I see.

Anyhow, 100 miles or so on the bike (and one tipover; the result of my novice rider better half - no damage, aside from a scuff on the brake lever), and it's really starting to grow on me!

Think I'd like to eliminate that dumb exhaust crossover/equalizer, though. I get the feeling it's partly ruining the unique sound of a Triumph twin. Suggestions?

By the way, mine (his, rather... I keep forgetting!) has that "J" code just before the serial number part of the VIN. Made in Hinkley, then?

I had a 2004 Bonneville. After I put the TOR's on it, it sounded very much like I remember my 1970 TR6R sounding. The 2004 Bonnie was a dynamite bike. However, after I test drove the Rocket, I sold the Bonnie and got the Rocket. Four years later, I'm getting a bit tired of the Rocket's weight and am thinking about trading down to a Bonnie. This assumes that I actually believe that I'm over the power trip the Rocket affords. I'm very fickle. I'll probably keep the Rocket.

Dougl,
I've thought about doing the same thing. If they had made the Thunderbird when I bought my Rocket, I probably would have ended up with the Thunderbird instead.

I've even thought about selling the Rocket and the Trophy 1200 and buying two Bonnevilles, but, I'm pretty addicted to the Rocket's hot rod style, power and flexibility.

By flexibility, I mean.. I can make my own R3T (with more power :D), or, in a few minutes, I can strip it down and have one bad looking muscle bike.. :) atleast in my opinion.. and that's all that counts!.. :D

You have that assbackwards. You PM'd me asking me to come to your forum which I declined. I happen to have that message saved.....would you like to read it again....here?

I'm not superior to anyone. I'm knowledgeable about the mechanics of machining and production practices and I can smell a poser a mile away... maybe you need some deodorant?

Bulbuous....that's an interesting term.

...and I have a degree in philanthropy as well.

How poor your memory is. YOU PMed me first.

You mean you can smell yourself?
You are full of crap.
Hell, I can smell you from a thousand miles away.

Do you really think no one else can see how arrogant you come off on this forum?
You've just never had someone like me to call you on your B.S. and I never would have, had you not first attacked me. Then you continue to do it again and again. Is that how you have run off others that called you on your B.S.?

I guess you get away with it because you pay the forum owners to hawk your bull crap "products" here.

Bulbuous....that's an interesting term.

bul·bous Pronunciation: \ˈbəl-bəs\ Function: adjective 1 : having a bulb : growing from or bearing bulbs 2 : resembling a bulb especially in roundness <a bulbous nose>
— bul·bous·ly adverb

Would you prefer overly large and butt ugly?
Is that clear enough for you?

I've been to your website and you have absolutely nothing worth buying.
You must be doing real well in this bad economy :p

We are doing quite nicely :D

Get a life, loser...
